I recently purshased a set of the Tetherite glass filled landing gear for my scratch built 64" span profile but would like to know if I can use the regular Rustoleum spray paint on it and if not, what would be a suitable type paint to use.

I thought you were supposed to use dye (RIT clothing dye) to color them.

Why do you want to paint it? Those tetherites are fuel proof, so paint will only add weight. Post a picture of your bird...........

Never heard of the dye method but since I want it in black I might give that tip a try on a little piece I have which I will use as my test bed.

I never tried it, but what I remember is that people would make a solution using just enough liquid to cover the legs and simmer them until they got the right color.

I did it to some RC car parts about a hundred years ago. Black should be pretty easy? Anything else will keep getting darker depending on the time spent in the dye solution.

That said, I would just spray them with a couple light coats of acrylic enamel and be done with it. My experience with that has been pretty good - but the usual disclaimers apply....

Use only Rit dye and in a solution of 50% water and 50% Vinagar. I did this with some APC props and they took the color really well.

I sprayed the tetherite gear on/for my old (and fun little) Katana V2 profile with LustreKote "Jet White" about 5 or 6 years ago and it's still holding up nicely! I did scuff it up a bit before spraying if I remember correctly. Probably about 2 to 3 very light misting coats. Been awhile though..
