Thanks fiery.

I now feel that it was a good price, despite there being another determined bidder.

My intention is to use it in the 72 inch span 'Aeromodeller' plan Henri Varache HV 450 that I am building. But when engineering becomes a work of art I feel like keeping it in its original condition. Your earlier post suggests that you do too.
However I do plan to use it.

I will weaken.

There is an old and battered but still very flyable "Miss America" in my hangar. Currently powered by a rear push rod OS 40 FS swinging an 11 x 7 Taipan grey prop.

Thinking ... retro-fitting the GB 5 ... re-do tattered covering ...

"'ffkiwi' (still hanging on to his GB50and still hoping for a David Owen 2.8 one day) "

Chris, have you heard what type of engine may be being considered?

It may have mentioned on Ron's M.E.N. site but if it was I missed it.

Winston-the 2.8 project seems to be on the back burner and I don't know what David's ongoing intentions are with it. I think he has other replica engines planned for the near future-but our Australian colleagues may know more-fiery? greggles? qazimoto? PWF63?

Actually, it was your second bid. It would appear that you placed the first bid at $90.00.

I'm, not too sure Chris what David will be doing next. I Know that I'm in for one of the first Owen 2.5 Taipan Diesels that should be starting to be delivered soon from what I hear.

Hi Fred, the first batch of T2.5s looks like being ready to run by about the end of the month, so hopefully you won't have long to wait.

I'd certainly like to see some more 2.8s, as it's an extraordinary engine. (About 14000 with a 9x5, from memory.) There are still some unused parts for them.

Steve

PWF 63, you are right, it was my 2nd bid. I am always a little bit uncertain about making an unbeatable first bid because on our annoying N.Z. 'tradeMe ' online auction site you have to remember to tick the 'auto bid' box or what you enter is your bid. As I discovered, it is one way of being sure to win an auction.

M.E.N. December, 2003, had information about David Owen's 2.8 cc. ( before I came back to aeromodelling.)

I would love to see a shot of the rear of the engine.

Is it piston ported?

Yes most definitely, I have seen one in the flesh and Dave was holding it at the time.

The GB is 5.4 cc or .33 cu. in. displacement. I have seen David Owen's 2.8 cc sideport design and a real nice engine. Alan Laycock brought the engine to a USA SAM Champs some years back. Jack
