Don't forget about the length of the pushrods, etc if you use only one servo. They aren't really all that expensive, are they?

On a stik I wouldn't bother. It requires either matchboxes or more complicated programming, they are trying to keep it simple.

If you loose a wing servo on a stik, you'll have no trouble landing unless it really seizes up, in which case, a second wing servo isn't going to help you much.

I second Barracuda's opinion on this. I have flown up to 33% 3D planes with one servo on the ailerons. Granted they were very high torque and setup correctly (best mechanical advantage).

Here's a suggestion. Fast and powerful. Check the price.

Thats the best price I've seen on them yet. They must have changed the specs. Mine arent very fast and at the time the spec was something like .2 sec/60deg arc and about 157oz at 4.8v. Now they are .14 sec/60 deg arc and 215oz at 4.8v. Mine are a couple years old. I'll definitely be getting more for my warbirds. I use four of them in my big Sig SunDancer bipe and will be using 7 in a 1/5 TF P-47.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but WHY are there so many price differences, incrementaly from a 12.00 servo on up to 100.00 + I get that some are digital and some have metal gears, some have sleeved bearings, but does ity really make all that big of difference that the casual sport non 3d flyer would notice?

Interesting question. The answer really depends more on the airframe than the type of flying, though if you were weighting factors, then type of flying would certainly weigh into it.

Flying a trainer on precise digital servos or old 3001's you'd be hard pressed to ever tell the difference.

Fly an Extra 300 on mediocre servos, and then fly the same plane on good digitals, then almost any pilot with sufficent tail dragger flight time to fly an Extra would be able to tell a noticable difference to the point it would be like a different plane. Now the question becomes, does it make a 300 dollar or so (maybe more) difference to YOU to get the better flying plane?

It's like driving an Acura or a Chevette. The problem is once you drive the Acura, you may never be happy in the Chevette

These are great all-round high toruqe servos. I have them in my stiks and some  other scale airframes.  Never had one fail yet.

I have flown everything from foamies to 40% planes. The last couple planes I built were 50cc 3D planes using some off brand servos. The main difference I found was consistency (or lack thereof). I have been into big planes for a while, did product testing for some larger names in the hobby and have been endorsed (sponsored). Bottom line is you get what you pay for. For something I am going to bash around I might not care so much. However on larger planes where there safety involved I am not overly confident in some of the off brand servos.

Like it was mentioned before; if you are the casual weekend flyer you might never notice. I remember the first time I flew my plane with hi torque digital servos and for me it was night and day. I would venture one step further and say that buying used name brand digital servos is a great way to go. I have done this and simply replaced gears myself or sent them in for service/checkup before flying.

I can't recall which thread it was but I think I have at least one or two on here and other flying sites that document my experiences.

Yes you do notice the difference in similar planes. I fly scale and warbird so I normally dont need digital precision and my skill level doesnt have much need for it. A couple of years ago I built up a Yak 54 for practice and put hitec hs7955TG servo's in it. That was a wow moment for me. They wouldnt be much use in my warbirds but I definitely liked them in the Yak.

I am using HiTech 645mg Hi torques 333oz 6volt 2400mah in a 120" Ziroli AD Skyraider and they handle it quite well.

I was just looking at the 645mg specs. The 6v stall current is 133oz.
