Status: online 		The 1/4” X 1/6” rib cap strips are installed, top and bottom. It is interesting how much strength the cap strips add to the ribs. Sanding the trailing edge basswood down to a fine 1/6” edge and blending in with the sheeting. Added some triangle pieces to strengthen gear block mounting and test fitting the main gear strut.

Status: online 		Working on the aileron. In these images the aileron line has been cut in the sheeting and part way into the ribs with an X-acto knife.

Status: online 		Aileron cut away from the center wing part and the aileron torque tube linkage. The aileron torque tube is an unused part from my Tiporare kit.

Status: online 		Test fitting the aileron linkage. The nearest bay to the center of the wing on the trailing edge is filled with a balsa wedge. The extra balsa will be part of the nylon bolt mount for the back of the wing.

Status: online 		The torque tube is countersunk into the trailing edge to get its center of rotation as near as possible to the hinge line and epoxied in place.

Status: online 		The front 5/16" of the aileron was cut off and a ¼” piece added and then beveled on the top and bottom.

1/16” was cut off the front of the center tailing edge and was glued back on with a combination of glue. Epoxy glue was used where the ribs support the torque tube and yellow glue at the sheeting seams.

Thanks for the comments David. I did almost glue one of the plywood gear mount doublers to the wrong rib but I caught it right away and got the epoxy off the rib! If you see me building two right wing panels let me know right away.

I’m looking forward to the fuselage too. I have the wood and I’m just thinking through if I want to use the G-21 46 or one of my more powerful engines.

Glad you told us. It makes me feel a little more human. I managed to leave a stab setting with epoxy while I went to pick up my kid from school. Naturally I was late as "it always takes longer" when you're building. Needless to say, when I came back, I wasn't too happy with what I saw... But that was a while ago.

Status: online 		Ended up using about 1/2” of dihedral under each wing tip. Just enough that it is noticeable and keep from having the straight wing look.

Status: online 		Installing the internal aileron parts; hinge points, end caps and linkage mount before adding the top sheeting on the left wing panel.

A small cut was made at the aileron ends so I can find the ends when the top sheeting is installed.

Status: online 		Working on the left wing panel. The top trailing edge, rib cap strips and center sheeting is on along with the 1/8” X 3/16” basswood strip on the trailing edge. The lower sheeting is not installed yet so I can add some sheer webs on the main spars.

Next, the wing tip block, sand down the basswood trailing edge, cut out and complete the aileron, install shear webs on the main spars, bottom center sheeting and make a 1/4” thick plywood center wing joiner that will fit between the upper and lower wing spar.

Sanding the basswood to an edge takes some effort but I think having a sharp hard edge is worth the extra work.
