I'm not a HL lover, frankly. My experience with few of them it was disappointed.... BUT I spent less money than with Tamiya ( a lot), of course.
What I see here is very interesting and I'm coming to get one. Finally we have an A3 chassis without to enter in a conversion, but the funny work to disassemble, strip, detail and get all the parts together again.

I think that nobody care about electrics as there are a lot out there.

I would have preferred a 75 gun and mantlet, but the chassis and the hull are precious parts for new projects.
Thanks for sharing pictures

Not sure what you got there Freaky, but the electronics look like the Old H L non smoke and sound. Does this have smoke and sound????

Hi Dan, Heng Long have released six versions of this tank, then you have the supposed Waltersons version and I believe TaiGen will most likely also have a version. The version posted here is the 3898 variant which uses the old the TK-01 board, good for filling up the recycling plant and that's about it. The Waltersons/TaiGen/Heng Long versions all use the same base model of tank the difference is in the painted finish and accompanying accessories only. For the S&S version you will need to purchase 3898-1.Generally speaking, in terms of detail, I would say the Sherman is a step back compared to recent issues from Heng Long, when compared to the Mato Sherman I think they both have their faults and good points. I am not sure about the tracks as it would mean retooling which is expensive. The accessories sprues look to have similar parts found on the Pershing. Parts lists are available for every tank and always have been, but since it usually totals four pages it would be completely unnecessary to print those since they are not needed by general users. From what I know the tank was delayed due to problems, it was supposed to have been released in May this year (2012). The release schedule and information was utter pants as usual.

Anyone get the new Sherman for Christmas? I see a lot are being sold on eBay.

Let's see some of your pics of it and what plans you have!

Aye that about sums it up

I believe they have done the same as they did the with the King Tiger release, a number of tanks were released ahead of the scheduled production date. A number of these Tigers had issues such as paint blemishes and missing accessory parts.  A good number of them were also faulty and missing chassis screws etc.

May not be the same with the Shermans but worth double checking each unit.

I would have prefered a small hatch to this. but this looks like a good base to work from. They did a good job on the front transmission cover and the sprockets extend past the housing, which was a major flaw on the Mato that needed to be reworked.

I really like the fact it is becoming more kit like. I hope the parts are available separately. Heng Long may discover they have as much demand for individual parts as they do the complete tank.

Those tracks gotta go though. I photoshopped what they are supposed to look like in red vs what the actual is in Yellow

I guess if you have to go with Tamiya, the Perhings electronics would be a good match for this tank

Hello Dan,
I am so curious to know whether each track link connected with another one by 2 pins or not?  In real Sherman there are 2 pins but for the Waltersons one.....?

Hi Guys

One pin. The link is a one piece affair with each being linked to the next with a single pin.

Also, the Mato tracks do not fit. They are slightly wider so they do not go round the drive sprocket and are two wide for the rear iddler (and the road wheels for that matter).

All in all though I am very happy with it. The thing worked well and ran nicely - until I ripped out all the electrics to upgrade it to Tamiya internals.

Just need to find somebody who has 75mm barrels now and I can get to work on it. Does anybody know if there are suppliers of these?

cheers

Thank you Gorehound and Dan,
We have found some problem regarding of the pin matter .It's not the M4 but the ZTZ99 ....we found that each link connected with another one by only one pin ( they made it looked like 2 pins there, just fake) hence the tracks do not go round the sprockets nicely so the tank could not pivot on rough surface even we use hi torque brushless motors and 3:1 gears due to the slippery between track and sprocket.

And  we also found that the old version of HL .M26 track (3 years  ago) are 2 pin type but the new version is 1 pin type . Heng Long developed backwardly in this matter.  Anyhow fortunately  Mato M26 metal track is still a 2 pin type one.

Sorry to talk bit off topic but just wanna comment that it would be better if Waltersons provided a correct 2 pin type track for this M4A3.

I heard a rumour that the tank did not track well, but nobody who has one has mentioned anything about it so I had ruled out this rumour.

What you have demonstrated on the ZTZ99 is of interest though. Again not many people have complained about this. Too bad to hear about the plastic M26 track as well. That was one stock plastic track form Heng Long that was really good.

Cheers

Hi

I am sure it is only a matter of time (hopefully not too much) before the aftermarket stuff comes out for this one and metal tracks will be available. Would really be nice with a set with duckbills like the ones for the MAto tank.

On the subject of the tracks, I had no issues in the short time I ran it before gutting it out to upgrade but it was onlt on wood floor so I would noy know what it was like on grass or uneven surfaces.

cheers

Hi Dan,
You are right ....the old version stock plastic track from Heng Long is really good. To make it clear I 've attached photos below to reconfirm your statement.

Note
:
1.The tracks on the tank are old version and they are eactly 2 pin type , my friend bought the tank as  a standard S&S 3 years ago.
2.The track of which  is  seperately put beside the tank is 2012 version of which is a single pin type.
(see photos no 4 and 5)
Besides the link of the 2012 versions is changed .... for cost reduction propose for sure.

All in all it's a robust tank and the first affordable welded hull tank out there. I too was a little disappointed in the tracks initially, but as someone once said... "you can't see them when the tank is moving", so there you go a solution. Never stop the tank.

I just hope the metal tracks are correct. I've seen images with them being correct in a package, and then images of it at an online store where they are not, so before I invest I'll need to know.

Yes. If nothing else it is a good supply of Sherman parts, which is not a lot different then the Mato Sherman is. If you buy the basic bones tank, there is a lot of parts there for the money.

Does anyone want to comment on the suspension. I know it functions, but is it true to the protoype?

Not sure if someone answered this yet. Is there wheel rubber or is it paint?

The Mato metal suspension functions like the actual suspension with a floating pivoting swing arm assembly. Does the HL function this way, or did they hinge the suspension arms?

Hi Dan

Yes, it pivots like the MAto metal upgrade rather than the stock swivel on the MAto Sherman. The wheels are just painted black. One thing, on my one anyway is that the wheels are very loose on the axles - there is a lot of play.

Don't remember seeing that. I know they were shown to function, but the question I had was how are they made to function. If they function like the Mato metal ones then they are prototpically correct. Again if there was a picture showing this I must have missed it.
