Status: offline 		I'm getting ready to reassemble a YS .61-R, and it's been a long time since I replaced the bearings in one of these engines. I think I remember how to do the rear one, with putting the bearing on the crankshaft and then into the freezer, and then heating the crankcase where the bearing goes just before assembly. Could someone refresh my memory about seating the front bearing? I know the front one has to go in first. What about using a lubricant on either one to help it seat completely?

Status: offline 		Heat. Oil won't hurt but heat it once for the front then again for the rear. Many use an oven for 1/2 hour at 300* but I just use a heat gun while it sits on a silicone pad or wood plank. The moving air get it hot much faster.

Status: offline 		Thanks, I hadn't thought of using a heat gun - I had always used a propane torch, and feared that one day I would crack one of my crankcases.

What about seating the front bearing? I once had to remove one (and ruin it in the process) because it got stuck part way in. How do you insert the front bearing to get it seated all the way in?

Status: offline 		Occasionally I have one that won't just drop in with heat.
In that situation, I pull them in while its hot with washers and spacers using the prop nut.
Leather, or silicone mitts are necessary.
