Merry Christmas Everyone!
I'm interested in finding out if anyone has ever made there own spinner for a scale model? If so did you make it out of fiberglass? Aluminum? How about the back plate? I started making a foam plug and was going to fiberglass it but Im not sure about the backplate.Any help is greatly appreciated. The spinner that I have in mind is for a 1/4 scale Albatros.
Thanks,Barzini

Barzini,

Here's a pic of my 1/3 scale spinner. I spun a bunch of these for the 1/3 scale Siemens Schuckert DIII. It's the same profile as the albatros. I also do them in 1/4 scale. I have one on my 1/4 scale albi as well.

If you do make a fiberglass one, you will need to be very precise in laying the glass; equal weight everywhere. It would be very desirable to hold it together with vacuum while it cures. Many the commercial ones are using pre-preg material.

Is it less critical that a spinner is balanced than a propeller? I've never heard of anyone doing a balance check on a spinner.

Balance of the spinner is important; most commercial ones are OK. Home made you will need to be careful; that and the track, no wobble allowed.

I have an article somewhere by a US scale champ on how to make fibreglass spinners.

I think this particular one was for a Hyperbipe.

If that's what you are looking for I can dig it out, scan it & email it to you.

John.

I have scanned a two part article on making fiberglass spinners which appeared in the now defunct Scale R/C International magazine. It is a very well done, step by step article of the entire process. Send me an email if you would like a copy.
