Planning for 5 weeks round trip. Riding a Suz DL650 V-Strom. I'll try to find that article. Thanks.

I like the V-Strom, nice all arounder.

Fizz, I got my Ashley all ready but she looks a bit heavy in the hiney. I'm going to move some stuff around before maiden. Are all your planes from Matney?

My 2013 resolutions..

1. Build a pure speed 1/2A RC model for my Profi .049
2. Build an .010 RC model. I have a pile of .010's but never flown one RC. I have a 22" span Tomboy drawn up, fuselage already framed up. But something sport aerobatic too.
3. Fly more 1/2A control line and free flight
4. Reawaken the Screamin Demon business (actually I am meeting a new laser cutter/wood supplier next week, and have enough spars for 75 kits. This resolution includes getting the smaller version out as well.)
5. Join the turbine world with a recently acquired Savex L-39
6. Finish the Tiger Moth and have it airworthy by spring/early summer
7. Show up at 1 or 2 modelling events
8. Get my RZ350 back on the road

Hmm, that list is looking pretty ambitious already..

fizz....those are awesome pylon racing projects...! In all the years I've flown in this area, I've never seen any Q40 planes flown for sport or for practice..ever.

TB..that's quite a trip...! Don't forget your mosquito net and face shield..!

MJD, lots of cold, dark days ahead to get stuff done before the early summer thaw. My neighbor reminded me about something I had gorgotten about. He heats his shop with one of those kerosene blast heaters, just to take off the chill and then switches back to quiet propane "Mr Heaters" to maintain the area just enough to be semi-comfortable.
The only issue with the blast heater I'm not sure about is if they throw off enough oily residue everywhere to be a nuisance.

I think I'll just finish up some older projects.  Maybe do a B speed or proto.  I think the 1/2A stuff will just tumble on the landings. I had one of the bomb style heaters in my old shop and it was pretty stinky but ok.  It was just too loud to do any work for any length of time.  I got a kerosene heater with a wick that was better once the shop was warmed with the noisy one. It only stinks for a few minutes and then it is ok inside.  I mostly worked on the streetrods in the winter.  The other part of the shop for my planes, I just used a propane radiant heater that screwed on top of the 20 lb. tank.

Aspeed..the biggest problem in the cold is getting up to the minimum temp that most of the polyester autobody products need, which is about 55 degrees..even the 2 part epoxy primer needs 55 degrees. On the plus side, at least it's more fun to weld and make parts out of steel when it's cold instead of doing it on a 90 degree day.
I think my best solution is to buy a bulk amount of styrofoam insulation boards and get good at throwing up makeshift rooms for body work that are easy to keep warm.
For all who take on toxic work in cooped up areas...go find a used CPAP machine on Craigslist and adapt it to $25 half face respirator mask. You will get a steady supply of cool, fresh air and keep yourself healthy enough to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor later on.

For 2013 I'd like to finish a 1/2A sliver, put my Schlosser .25cc diesel on a sporty airplane, and get back to SMALL. Gonna be tight on the last one, I am moving and took a week off for that.

Keep us posted if you have any small engines for sale..!

DD....the Schlosser project's got to be a top priority..!
If I had one I'd build a QTee type plane for it to haul around. Possibly a shrunken Lil Toad delta with tiny mechanical mixer on display under canopy.

Will the Saito club hold one of those "decommissioning ceremonies" with you where they call you to attention, then rip your arm patches off your sleeves in front of the entire battalion.. ?

Nah, not me. But I am quite fond of Yammie two strokes. My first street bike was an '81 RD350LC. My first speeding ticket with full arrest for running the cops followed shortly after..

I picked up an '85 RZ350R about 5 years ago, engine quite fresh (6.5k) and generally in decent shape. Toomey pipes (a bit louder than stock, the neighbours are pleased with the 51 year old ring-dinger hooligan next door.. ) and Fox shock, otherwise stock. Couple of years ago I didn't notice the slow leak in the front tire and low sided it in a parking lot when the front sidewalls flexed during a quick right hand 90 and the rim brushed the pavement. Broke the rear footpeg bracket, brake pedal, and protruding lights. Nothing major. But later that year I had neck surgery and was prohibited from riding or wearing a helmet for a year and the repair project got parked for a while. Now I find myself fantasizing about fitting a Trinity 485cc top end/crank kit.

I will finish up: (I hope)
1/2 A Baby Flitestreak UC
Veco Chief UC
25 size Tweety Bird
.020 School Boy
Ohio RC Chipmunk
Fix Giant Aeromaster and 1/4 scale Pitts
Build Twin Air 40 and Sig Twister UC

A friend and I really got into UC this past year and had a blast.

I dream big. Probably won't get 1/2 of it done. Most of the finish up are mostly framed.

Have a great 2013. Would really love to get to SMALL but it's a long way from VA. I may retire first of 2014 and that trip may be on my to do list that year.

Slow but steady wins the race..! There are so many guys who have no real hobbies. After they retire some end up going back to work.....!!

Funny you say that. My Dad just turned 75 and is going back to work in January. I informed him that I was trying to get away and he was trying to get back. He retired from being a Policeman at 51 and went straight into construction full time (he worked it my whole life part time) till he reached 67. Retired from that and has been bored to tears since. He never had any hobbies. All he ever did was work and hunted during season, but that was only 3 - 4 weeks a year. With all the kits, plans, cad program and laser, I will live forever!

Good for your Dad though..! I don't remember his age, but the oldest man with a full time job was on Johnny Carson one night. I'm pretty sure Jay Leno was guest host that night. Leno asked him his secret to longevity and he told Leno he drinks a shot of Worcestershire sauce everyday. Next thing you know he pulls a tray out with 2 shot glasses and pours a shot for Leno and himself. You should have seen the face on Leno, it was priceless...!!

Geez I'd like to finish some kits I started. When I was a kid, I could finish a 35 size profile controliner in two weeks. What happened to me?
