I have flown this CAP 232 4 times without the cowl as I am new to this size aircraft and gas.... I have installed the cowl today and want your opinion or experience on this set up... The intake on the carburator has a 1/4 inch clearance away from the inside of the cowl... Will there be proper airflow for the intake? Since this airplane was sold by GP to be matched with the Fuji 43 Gas I would believe all is well with the set up... or do I need to open up a one inch hole at the intake tube...

On another note I have drilled a small hole in the cowl directly across from the intake on the carburator to allow for primeing the engine with a small squirt of gas before chocking... The 6 times I have started the engine cold in the mornings I have had problems getting fuel to the carburator.... Will this hole cause any airflow problems.... Thanks for you help....

Normally I would say that a 1/4" clearance from the cowl is a bit too close but I would suggest you try it before cutting the cowl. As regards the small hole for priming the carb I don't think that should cause you any problems.

Don't be surprised if you have to change the needle settings some with the cowling on.

Change rich or lean? I also expect balance and aero to be different.

I am going to guess and say it will be on the rich side, but your set up may respond differently than the side carb plane I set up a couple of years ago. Its a Cap also, but not a GP. I also covered up the scale air intakes on each side with some black plastic so that all the exit air would be the cooling air over the cylinder. I don't know if that really makes any difference, but it made me feel better, ha, ha. My engine intake has about an inch of clearance to the side of the cowling, so I didn't think I needed to cut a hole. I imagine rpm checks will tell if it is getting enough air to the intake or not.

Windy, rainy, and chilly down here, pretty much sucks for flying right now.
