I sold my Pickup so now have to get a trailer for hauling my larger planes around. My Kadet fits in my new car OK, not sure yet on the 4*120, and the Twin Otter may fit, but my CARF Extra 330L sure wont, nor will my Deweyville or Funstar.   SO what I am looking at is http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/720507-duracraft-8-white-enclosed-trailer.html#.UN4sUnfNmSo

So what could I use to store the planes in it for transport, yet be easy to remove when I need it for something else?  If you have a setup, please post it so I can get some ideas. Thanks.    Trailer weighs 812 pounds, and want to keep the gross to 1000 or less since I will be towing with my Hybrid.

That might be pretty hard on a hybrid. I built a smaller trailer towed by my honda civic. I get 27mpg towing the trailer fully loaded to go flying.

Never say never. I know of someone who towed a plane with a Prius, so anything is possible. Trying to find the pics, so i can link it.

Didnt say never, but that is pretty impressive. What kind of hybrid do you have. I keep my load under 500lbs and have the transmission serviced every year to keep an eye on the bands inside. So far so good. Been towing this for 6 years. My commute to the field is 72 miles round trip. The truck was just too expensive.

What kind of axle is it, leaf or torsion. Mine is leaf, the bounce doesnt seem to be any worse than my truck. If I ever build another, I'd try a torsion to see how it does.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion H and a 2013 FFH. The trailer has torsion suspension so it sits low to the ground, designed for mid size car towing.  I think the height is off though, its much taller than 4'7", I can walk inside slightly hunched and I'm 5'8. As long as I keep tongue weight to a minimum it should do fine, I don't plan to pull it with any real load in it with the car, just my planes, and all together should be more than 100 pounds.   We have a 95 Grand Marquis to pull it with when we need to put any real load in the trailer, and I also have a large horse trailer that the GM can tow.  Now that would look strange to have that big horse trailer behind the Fusion. Disaster waiting to happen.

So what about racks and securing the planes? Thats what I want to get lined up for when I get the trailer.

Our Club President, and many others, have built a custom trailer based on the Harbor Freight folding trailer. His has a 4x4x8' box that easily will carry anything a pick up would volume wise.

Seams to me it would be pretty easy to slide the box off for other general uses

I had one of those I carried my dirt bikes on years ago too,, pretty good product for the money

I made racks out of 3/4 inch p.v.c, would like to post pictures but Iam kinda computer stupid , geuss I should have paid better attention to Gary harris' tutorial in another thread! The rough dimensions were, 3' wide 4' long 4'high, it has three different levels, put pipe insulation on the horizontal levels, strap the fuselages and wings down to the horizontal levels using bungee cords. secure the rack to the floor of the trailer using conduit clamps and screws. able to haul five .40 to .60 size planes on this rack with the wings also. secured the rach to one side of the trailer towards the front, leaving room along the side to load and secure the planes, and room at the back for the flight box and lawn chairs with cooler, (packed with lunch) hope you can paint the mental picture from this off hand rambling! Good luck!
