 Hi Guys

What temps should i be seeing when running fast for some time?

I am a newbie when it comes to running Nitro engines
I had a good bash today in the desert with my Savage XL and was running fast for extended periods.

I saw over 400 degrees at one point!

What are signs of an over heating engine?

At one stage the engine just wouldnt develop any power and wouldnt rev at all. The truck would only run at a fast walking pace.

When this happened i stopped it and let it cool down which seemed to help the issue.

Any advice greatfuly recieved

Cheers

Ben

that's seriously overheating... when it starts to act up like that its a sign of over heating... Mine never runs past the 250 mark no mater how hard i run it... Richen it up its definitely running way to lean

My tmaxx will start to shut down around the 300 mark...

It would seem your running your motor way to lean. I would richen that bad boy. The K5.9 likes to run hot like around the 280-300f range(this is normal operating range) but lower is a little better. It is also very prone to air leaks which cause your motor to lean out. If your motor sounds like chewbacca from Star Wars then it's to lean.

Have you set your idle gap to 1mm to 0.5mm basically the thickness of a credit card? Once this is done leave it alone.

Have you sealed the middle speed needle? You should have never touched it. Seal it up and leave it

Have you sealed around the carb and backplate? These are areas that the 5.9 leaks from

What kind of pipe do you run? I highly suggest getting and ERCM pipe, but if its to much money the cen genisis pipe or buku pipes work very well and keep temps down.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the Feed Back

Will definitely richen her up a little!!

She was running great though!

The LHS did the engine break in and initial tune and i saw them adjust the middle speed needle. How do i make sure its set back to stock?

I am running the Stock XL exhaust.

The ERCM pipe looks nice but i dont want to spend that much at the moment.

Can any one recommend a good CEN dealer online?
I will look into the Genisis PIpe.

I will double check the Idle gap is 0.5-1mm and i will also seal up the engine as you suggested
It has not been touched only to thread lock all the bolts and adjust the gear mesh a little better.

Thanks for the help guys

Ben

If its running fine then leave the middle speed needle alone and just seal It up. I still think you would be happier with the ERCM pipe, but I'm a little bias, I own 3 hehe

Check eBay for pipes

I had a flat spot in the middle so i actually richened the middle speed needle a bit and it helped smooth it out some.

It would accelerate well with plenty of smoke then hesitate a little and then pick up and pull really well.

I richened the mid speed and it helped allot.

I guess ijust need to richen up teh top end some to get the temps down

Is there a difference between the Genisis pipe and the Buku Pipe you mentioned?

The ERCM Side Bleed does sound very tempting!!

Will start searching Ebay

Is this the Genesis Pipe you were talking about?

http://cenracing.shptron.com/p/gs080-alum-2-piece-tuned-pipe

What is the main difference between this and the stock HPI Pipe and this one and the ERCM pipe?

Cheers

Ben
