I have the HPI 24mm adapters and they are nice quality

I have them on my XL and i run the Proline Desparado 1/5 rear buggy wheels all around  with the Bow Tie tires

Everything else is bone stock and works great.

The wheels and tires are significantly heavier than stock though.

So far nothing has broken!!

Cheers

Ben

I am also looking into new exhaust for my K5.9 motor

Other suggestions are the Cen Racing Genesis Pipe

The ultimate pipe seems to be teh ERCM Endbleed pipes

but they are a bit pricey

    Cheers

im puttin it on a losi 454. its virtually a lrp .28 spec3. u can have a look on ebay for either a losi 454 or the lrp they are cheap. i wish i got the lrp because i replaced the carb on the 454 with the spec 3 carby anyways. on ebay they both are around 150 mark. but def go the lrp z.28 spec 3. when i first put the 454 in the xl i was amazed on the difference in power. also with the pipes check out ebay. to get that stuff here in aus from my lhs is way to expensive. ebay is the way to go for me. it depends if it works for u.

Yep no problem i will post some pictures tonight when i get home

    You mentioned above...

"when i first put the 454 in the xl i was amazed on the difference in power"

Was it the stock K5.9 that you replaced with teh .28 454 that gave you the big improvement in power?

    Cheers

    Ben

hi Ben, yes thats correct. the power difference was amazing. good power across the whole rev range. heaps of torque down low. and with a new pipe to go with the engine it will come alive even more. the 454 is just starting to loosen up so i would think its still yet to show even more power. the k5.9 was ok tho. but until you slap a 454 or lrp z.28 in ur truck u wont understand.. but if u do get either of these engines definatly pick the lrp z.28 spec3. ppl might chime in as to get a high priced engine but if ur not racing or anything like that the lrp is the best bang for buck.

    Thanks for that

    Thats really interesting.

I would have thought the extra displacement of the K5.9 over the .28 would have given it more power all through the range.

When i need to replace the K5.9 then an LRP .28 Spec3 sounds just the ticket.

    Cheers

Will post pics of my wheels when i get home

    Ben

Yes the wheels and tires are mounted on the Truck at the moment.

I did it mainly for looks as i don't like the original wheel tire combo.

They are significantly heavier as well though, i will take one off and weigh it to compare against the original when i get home mate.

    Cheers

    Ben

that would b good, mate. it will be interesting to c what the difference is. my main concern is the extra load on the drive train are the tires much wider than the stock or are the just taller?? how do i think they compare the the orignals?? handeling, traction ect??

The 1/5 Wheels an tires over all dimensions are almost exactly the same as the originals.

The tires are much harder and they have a much more shallow side wall so they don't compress like the originals do. So if your into big jumps and stuff then the original will absorb much more of that impact.

I have only run the originals once or twice so i cant really compare traction. I run on soft sand and  hard packed sand with allot of rocks / gravel in it so the deeper tread of the Proline Bow Tie tires maybe be better for me?? i dont really know.

I think the extra load on the drive train and suspension will come from the extra weight.

One thing to consider is that the outside bead locks on the Proline Desparado wheels are exposed and take a beating.
They are pretty dinged up already. So far i cant see where i can buy spares but i think the STD HPI 1/5 beadlocks fit the wheels if needed, they just dont look so nice, but they are available in different colours.

    Cheers

    Ben

OK here are the pics as promised!

I think the XL looks way better with these wheels / tires on.
Please ignore the decorations my daughter added for me!
It could have been worse, it could have been Tinkerbell stickers!

They are very close in size to the originals Bare in mind that the orinals look taller as there is no weight on them in this pic.

    BUT
The new wheels are quite a bit heavier

Thats 200 grams more EACH wheel.

Dont forget the HPI 24mm wheel nut wrench, that caught me out as i didn't have any 24mm sockets either!

    Hope that helps mate!

    Ben
