I've got a OPS .60 'Big Red' going into a new 'old' Bootlegger (seen elsewhere here). I'm looking for a mixture control needle valve assembly and one of the 'black' (1mm larger throat than the silver carbs) slide valve carbs.

Anybody got OPS parts laying around?

Regards, and Happy New Year
Cliff

Dave,

The 790 is the 8 mil carb. The 792 is the 9 mil with mixture.

Dave,

No worries, just wanted to make sure Cliff got the right carb he's looking for.

The three PDF files below ought to come in handy. OPS Super (gold head) SE & RE, OPS Ursus (red head) SE, OPS Speed (red head) RE and OPS carb documentation.

Parts ought to be available from Mantova Model in Italy as well.

David

This looks to be the 9mm slide with inflight mixture.

Got it!

Thanks to all who replied, just bought the carb I was looking for!

David,
You wouldn't happen to have similar literature for the 'Big Red' would you?

Regards,
Cliff

Cliff,

The second file is for the Ursus which is the red head three port engine. Unfortunately there is no depiction of the RE version as they probably discontinued it as soon as production of the Super began. Other than the crankcase, piston and perhaps sleeve, all else should be the same as the SE.

Cliff,

I just realized that OPS designated the RE version of the red head as "Speed" rather than "Ursus". I added the appropriate document (for your engine) in my post #6 above. It is PDF document number three now as described in the post.

David,
Thanks! You beat me to the punch... I poked around and found the same thing but haven't had the chance to upload. Now if I could only find a copy of the 'owners manual/operating instructions'...

Cliff

PS, hope to start the finishing process on the Boot this week!

What luxury... That's Florida for the rest of us. We're just dreaming of what painting will come in the Spring..., after the biggest snowfall in recent history. The cars all but disappeared from the road. But that was a week ago.

D'ya get your carb? I picked one up too (at cost dismay) for an NOS Ursus I have from which I have yet to figure out how to remove the boat flywheel on the front! I've put the sucker in a vice but don't have the right tool to hold the flywheel while I put some 1000 pounds of torque into the crank nut... I think this is the third round of penetrating oil and oven heating cycles. The sucker won't come off. It'll happen one day... Inside the engine is pristine, bearings, crank, piston, sleeve, the works.

David

I might as well post some pics of it.

Maybe some of you guys can tell me where to get a flywheel "hold" tool to fix the flywheel while I un-torque the nut off the front. The assembly is so tight (after some jerry rigged tool attempts) that it feels like I could crack or bend the crank or a bearing.

I know nothing about boats but the OPS docs suggest that the front boat flex shaft adapter ought to come off by unscrewing it from the crankshaft. Make sense?

Any boaters among us?

yes unscrewing it is correct. it may have been locktited on though, a impact wrench will do the job without any drama, a appropriate sized drill bit, butt end inserted in flywheel hole is what most boaters use to
