Sounds like a freak accident, and its extremely sad and unfortunate.

I wonder how many people were killed on the autobahn in that time frame :/

Or how many were killed skiing, roller skating, cycling, sky diving, scuba diving, etc. All hobbies will unfortunately result in some inury or death; that is just life. If you want the most security possible, do something to get you put in prison for a long time. Even there some occurrences occur that are life threatening.

I was wondering the same thing...then I found this report showing a different, more likely model than the one in the first post.

Unfortunately it takes very little impact force to kill a person when struck in the head. There was an article many years ago in one of the model magazines on the subject and the upshot was an 0.049 model could kill at a speed of less than 30 mph.

People die from being hit by golf balls.

Krashkopter, the Sea Fury in that pic was siezed in a terrorist plot a couple years ago. The foreign national was going to arm it and fly it into a building as I recall. I think the news folk are using it as a stock photo in this case. It would be interesting to see what size/type plane it was, of course I doubt the media will show the actual plane which is fine with me.

I agree it takes just a slight impact in the right place. I also recall a few years ago, a turn caller in a cage with a hard hat on at a T-6 race was leaning with his head against the cage. A plane went out of control and hit him in the head, killing him. The plane was 1/4-scale or so, pretty big and heavy.

That's the whole point. The article mentioned that the UK debated a complete model flying ban in an area, when they had their last accident. What this really amounts to is that wealthy people believe they have a right to drive their expensive cars fast, but you don't have a right to enjoy life, if what you are doing is flying more than paper airplanes. Of course with paper airplanes, you would need to ban the classical design that has a point on the front, as it could hurt somebody. Glad I don't have to be on this planet too much longer, given the way things are going.
