Status: offline 		Aldo, what did you use on the vertical & horizontal stabilizers to mimic the formers. I don't like 1/16 strips that Brodac/Spirit of Yesteryear uses. Makes them look too thick.

I haven't done much. I need a 10 oz fuel tank. I stopped by one hobby shop on my way home Monday and all they had was 8 & 12 oz tanks. I'm gong to stop off at the other hobby shop tomorrow as I will be close to it. I hope they have one. If not, I will have to order one. Looks like I will be rotating the engine 90 deg. The fuel tank will sit too high if I install the engine vertical. I"ll have to get creative with hooking up the throttle with the engine turned 90 deg though.

Status: offline 		Joe, on the original Coverite Gee Bee the stabilizer and fin are build from 5mm balsa-sheets. I covered the surface with paper and did some coats of clear nitro-paint (Nitro Hartgrund). After that  the rips of the real airplane are simulated with strips from paper. Strips are 3mm in width  and cut from paper about 0.15mm thick. Strips are glued useing little white-glue. Once dry next clear coat is brushed on and edges of paper-strips are sanded smooth. More coats brushed on until you are happy with the surface. The  final color is brushed on in several layers always sanded in between with fine grit. Today I would spray on the final color, will make things easier.

Here is how it will look at the end (Gee Bee model D). Decals have discolored over the years ( Model built in the eighties)

Here's some photo's of the firewall modification/relocation. They show the engine in an upright position, but now I have it turned horizontally. The fuel tank was going to have to be mounted so high that it would have been sticking out the the top of the fuselage. I'll take & post some more photos tomorrow.

Status: offline 		Got side tracked a little. I stopped on the Gee Bee to finish up a scratch built/laser short kit Sterling Fledgling. Then, I found plans & patterns on the internet for a control line Flite Streak. So right now, building the Flite Streak & finishing the Fledgling. I should be back on the Gee Bee soon.
