What's all available and what are the differences or characteristics? I know there is the box stock silver can 540, then the "black" can Sport Tuned 540, and now a "Dirt Tuned" 540. What would be best for Lunchboxes, Hornets, Grasshoppers and such? I have a black can in one of my Hornets now and it really scoots.

Just trying to learn all of the options and differences out there so I know what to get. Any opinion on where to find them cheap?

If you're happy with the speed of the sport tuned motor, I would use that in the others as well. I know that at least the earlier teu101bk ESC's included with many Tamiya kits will handle the sport tuned ,but not many motors that are faster than it.

The dirt tuned is a 27 turn stock motor with replaceable brushes and springs while the sport tuned is a sealed can motor.

Given the choice between the two, I would go with the sport tuned. They give similar performance but I just love the look of the sport tuned motor in a vintage style tamiya chassis.
