I have two old FM Futaba transmitters on 50 Mhz: an FP-7FGK transmitter, plus an FP-T5UAF, both circa 1990 vintage. I use them both interchangeably with several FP-R128DF receivers, and the venerable standard S-148 servos.

I recently acquired another FP-7FGK TX off Ebay, identical to my original one. However, when I use the new TX, it throws all the servos way off neutral position, in one direction. The trims sliders are in the middle positions. Basically it is like I have the sticks already maxed in one direction, e.g when I turn on the TX the elevator goes to full up. My other two TXs both work fine with the same RX.

I've played with the D/R and ATV trim pots, but of course they are not able to change the neutral position sent out by the TX.

There is something really whacked out with this TX. Any ideas what?

Brian

PS

I believe this must be a carrier frequency shift causing this. I have contacted Futaba, but as this is an obsolete TX, anyone know where I may have to get it calibrated? Or could I do it myself?

I contacted Tony Stillman at RadioSouthRC, who opined it was an encoder problem.

Thanks for all the helpful responses, this is a great forum. Not.

Brian,

As we are only on here as time from our normal jobs allow, we do not always get to answer as quickly as some wish we could.

Also when we do get on here the first thing we look for is the red "zero" in the center column which indicates that a question has not been answered. When you reposted onto your own origianl post, the zero was no longer there, thus if we checked the page, we would not see that your post was not answered.

Unfortunately the radio that you have is so old, that we no longer carry parts for it. Tony Stillman at Radio South should be able to help you out.

Please remember that if you have a question in the future for this page, do not post on the original page if you have a second question. Also we try to get on here regularly, but it doesn't always happen.

Sincerely,
Krysta

Look at the underside of the gimbals. You will see a plastic piece to which the stick is attached. It will have a screw opposite the stick side.
The pot for that channel is centered in this plastic piece and held by the screw. The position of the pot shaft sets the servo center.
The pot shaft has a screwdriver slot on the end. Loosen the screw, hold the stick in neutral and turn the pot shaft - the servo center will
shift. Center the servo and tighten the screw.
It is common to find the plastic pice (actually called a bale) has cracked allowing the pot shaft to loosen and shift position. If it is
cracked. don't bother to try to glue it, nothing holds. Has to be replaced. I may have some gimbals parts - let me know.
Can't help buy wonder why all the "experts" didn't know this?? eloymz!att.net

Krysta and EloyM,

Thanks so much. (Krysta you responded via e-mail to my Futaba.com support query as well, thanks.)

I did not understand that this forum was intended for actual vendor service department personnel to respond to. In the past anything I posted on this site (other forums) got many responses, and quickly. Now I understand the value of patience in this case.

Re: checking gimbals: I may not have made it clear in my description, but ALL channels are having this problem, so that would imply both sticks' gimbals have shifted, and along both the up/down and left/right axis. And when I say off center, I mean the servos are slammed to full deflection, in one direction, "hard against the stops" and sit there quivering. However, I will look at the gimbals, and if both are loose and/or cracked, then that would be a plausible explanation.

Thanks!

Brian
