Status: offline 		Looking for experiences with cordless Air pumps for the retracts. I have the Robart one that comes with a gauge etc. but I'm thinking of getting a bettery operated one. Some of my friends have them and they seem to work lots faster than me! lol

Opinions welcomed!!

Status: offline 		I found a few options at HarborFreight.. the best one I have cost $8.. little yellow one.. 12v and pumps to 100PSI pretty quick... it has a cig adapter but I rigged an inline deans plug and use one of my HobbyPeople 3s 2200 20c LiPos for power. (i have a bunch for my PZ T28)

Some of the guys at my flightline have new Sears cordless LiIon ones that cost cost $50 + battery $30 +charger $20

Got mine at Auto Zone: 50 bucks, by slime (unusual name!).
A few of my friends have the same design but from other brand names (campbell hausfeld, etc) from home depot, etc (probably all made by the same china factory!).
Had about 2 seasons with no problems (bought an extra for backup).
Comes with plug in charger. There's side pockets to hold charger and air line.
I see amazon sells them so you can order if no local stores available.
What ever you get, make sure the air gauge goes to about 300 as they don't produce what the gauge says to you need 300 to get 100. A long time ago, I bought one that only had about 150 lb gauge and it would never get up to providing 100 lbs of pressure.
Compared to my 60 gallon, 220 volt compressor, the compressor on these portable 'jobs' aren't very good: when you take them apart, you wonder how they can even work as it looks like pot metal with very large clearance tolerances. From my experience, any electric compressor costing less than 20 bucks (or so) and it'll last about one tire 'fill up'! A long time ago, I bought one at a drug for about 15 bucks and it lasted about 15 days.

Status: offline 		I agree with Sam - the Slime compressor works great. Mine is 5 years old and all I had to do was change the battery once. The guage is accurate and it pumps quickly.

Status: offline 		I have two that I bought from K-mart about ten years ago and they work great.I also bought one from M wards [Kamble Hausfeld][sp] with a internal battery and had to replace the battery once.The cheap ones from K-mart work better.???Go fig.

Status: offline 		Yo Sam, thanks. Thank you all for suggestions. I went to home Depot to look for a Campbell Hausfeld model but they only had the Ryobi's in the store. After reading about them on line I didn't purchase one.
My experience is if you buy cheap you get what you pay for.. usually lol

Got tired of an battery operated pump. Making sure it was charged, etc. Went to the local bike shop and spent $30 on a manual bike tire pump. Has a PSI pressure gauge. Takes about 25 pumps to fill the tank to 120 PSI on my Yellow P47. About 5 pumps between flights. As long as I have had a sandwich there will be enough energy reserve to operate it! Made a simple adapter using a basketball needle valve to make it work. Very happy with this.

Status: offline 		An RC friend from Grand Island had a great one last summer: I had to get one for myself.

It's the Bonair i5000, made by Goodyear, available at Amazon and many other sites on-line

Make sure you get the i5000. It's the one perfectly suited for field use

A buddy of mine has one from Harbor Freight (I think) that has worked fine for a couple of years. The Craftsman unit I just bought uses the same batteries that I will keep in the trailer for the cordless drill/driver, so no extra support equipment to haul to the field, and this little inflator feels very robust!

Status: offline 		Thank you all for the suggestions. I was given some gift cards for Home Depot for Christmas. So I think I'm going to buy what ever Home Depot has on line for sale. Probably the CC2300 Campbell Hausfeld. Seems as thought the battery dies in all these units at one time or another. Perhaps when that happens I can usa a different type battery.

I think the batteries are acid core (at least my model is acid core) so it's usually best to just leave them on charge and I think they will last longer than if they are allowed to drain. Most of the multi-day flyins seem to have 110 in the pits so I just leave them on charge when not in use.
ps: I think campbell hausfeld got bought out by another company so it's under a new name.

IMHO the Sears unit is the way to go. It's about the size of a cordless drill which is a real plus, doesn't need a separate battery and will fill the dual 350cc air tanks on my 1/5 scale Mustang in short order. Downside is the price quoted on the link above is for the compressor only, no battery or charger is included. If you don't already have that stuff, adding the battery/s and charger will add to the price tag substantially.

Status: offline 		I think this is a case where you can go cheap and get away with it.

I use a 9$  12 volt tiny compressor from Canadian Tire,  I run it off my 12 volt field box battery. ( now I use a 3 cell LiPo in my field box,  it's lighter than the old wet cell, and cheaper!

It pumps up my systems quick and has last for 10 years now!!  When it dies, I just get another.

Just cut the air hose off at the end, then use Goop glue and slide in  your rc air line to the length you want and attach the correct end.

Yeah, it is definately not the cheapest option, and I haven't really had a chance to use it over time yet, so I can't speak to its longevity, but I think it does fit the bill best for me! I went ahead and bought a drill/driver, 2 batteries and the charger (all my cordless stuff at home is either DeWalt or Makita), and it will always just stay in my trailer, vs. grabbing my cordless from home every time I am heading to the field.
