I'm new to this forum and to RC Flight. I have been bitten by the heli and even bought a micro cp (poor judgement on my part). Yes I was sure that I could jump right in and fly reasonably well,,,,uhhh wrongggg.. So I plan on getting a good sim, I would also like to get a good heli. Would like very much to get some feedback on what modles to consider.  My budget is around 500-600 all in. Due to where I live large heli's are out. The best place to fly here is a couple of small ball fields that are surounded by powerlines and house and such, so smaller is better. I was kind of thinking along the lines of the Blade 400 ?? Eventually I,ll be flying with floats since we have way more water than land here. Oh and I live at the end of a fairlly quiet culdesac would that be a good place to learn to hover???     Thanks....

Status: offline 		Sims are great, I'm currently reviewing RealFlight G6.5 and really like it.

As for floats, hold off on that till you get some proficiency, landing, and more importantly, taking off from water on a heli is somewhat of an adventure.

Believe me I am in no rush to go to floats.   Any thoughts on a good smaller heli? Every time I think that I have have found one I read really bad reviews or the it's discontinued.

Status: offline 		Ketchikan is about 300 miles south of Juneau. Not nearly as cold here as up north, alot more rain though...What brought you to northern Ak?      I was looking at the blade 400 RTF but, having a hard time tracking one down. I think that RTF is going to be my best bet given my lack of experience with setting them up.

Status: offline 		A 400 may be too big to fly in your area, especially if other people are around.  Could be very dangerous.

May want to try a Blade mCX2 or CX2 to just get started.  Much easier than a CP.  Could work with an mCX2 in a decent sized room.

Also, check out http://www.rchelicopterfun.com for lots of good info.

You now know the learning curve is steep here.  I'm in the same boat, er heli, you are.

Status: offline 		I actualy like my AXE 100 cp now that I have figured out how to get it under control a little better. almost ready to tackle nose in hover. I would like to go just a little bigger than micro class and would prefer to stick with cp , any ideas?

I too would recommend Blade as they have done a good job recently with thier mcpx and nano cpx...2 of their cp's I would do some research on are the 130X and the 300X: 130X and 300X.

I believe both of these are small enough for a flying area of your size but large enough to have some fun with. You may have to consider getting yourself a separate transmitter b/c both of these are BNF...you could easily check the classifieds and get a DX6 for a decent price. Besides, if you can already handle a cp heli it should be time to start learning basic setups as well...just another part of this heli hobby! Plus, a decent radio will be much more versitile then those tx that come with the RTF kits.

Status: offline 		 I have a Blade MCPX and am quite happy with it...be it durability, stability and parts availability. Because I went the Blade route, I ended up buying the Spektrum DX7s for a radio and that opened the door to bnf (bind-n-fly) The quad I picked up is also a Blade product (MQX-bnf) and is a great filler for in-house when the weather is bad or for outside when space is limited like your ballparks. I also have a 450 and 500 size but won't be ready for them till I get more practice with the MCPX....oh yeah, I also picked up the Phoenix flight sim and it has helped me greatly in learning the basics and some light 3d. Not to mention the awesome help and info from this site.
BTW...The quad might also be a better candidate for some sort of float/pontoon system for your water ideas cause it's way more stable...just my 2 cents...either way..good luck in your journey.

Status: offline 		Hi welcome to the RC World.I am also new to the 6ch fling and heres what i suggest. I also got the simulator which is a must if you are jumping into 4 or 6ch flying. I purchased a Walkera master cp. Its a 200 and its great for begginners who are jumping into 4 and six channel flying.It takes some time to learn how to fly it but i also suggest you get a training kit or build your own. The price is right and its a nice heli. Ive been doing alittle research on this chopper and i can only find one place to get parts for it and thats Helipal.com .Its over in Asia and it take a week or so to get here so ive been stocking up.One problem the part prices are not bad but the shipping they get you. Good luck with your flying and welcome to the RC world.

Flew P-3 Orion's in the Navy. Beautiful country when the sun came out

Status: offline 		  Ok put order in for the real flight basic package, wanted Pheonix but it will not run on my laptop.  Have done a lot of looking around on and have pretty much decided on a Blade130x and a Spectrum dx6i. Thank you Aframomum for the tip on that. I hadn't considered all of the safety/leagal issues and certanly don't want to injure anyone or cause any property damage..

 Thats really cool. Seems like sub hunting could be kind of hairy out there. My grandfather has told me some stories about his time out there way back when the the CG still had PBY's and UF's in the air out of Kodiak...
