FYI, to all tankers in the Los Angeles area, a new 1/16 rc tank IR battle club has been started, and is now meeting once a month at the American Society of Military History Museum in South El Monte.  Meeting is at the tank museum, which is located at 1918 Rosemead Blvd, South El Monte, CA 91733.  Next meet is at 10 am on Sunday, February 3, 2013.

Hope to see some of you all there

Just an update, I had the wrong date in the title (I put February 4).  February 4 is a Monday, LOL.  February 3 is the correct date (a Sunday).

Good luck with your club. There are many great tankers out there. I wish you all the best of luck....BTW you can edit the date on your original posts caption. Just go all the way back to the fist entry.

Was just notified by the club C.O. that we are moving the meet back 1 week, due to a football game...or something   Actually, the Superbowl  is the game, for those sports fans out there...

Regardless, the club will meet 1 week later, on February 10, 2013 at 10 a.m., at the tank museum.

The field is yet to be determined.  We aren't sure where it's going to be, but for right now, it's in a dedicated picnic area just behind the tanks.  Very smooth.  Just a few leaves.  Of course, you can drive your tanks out into the parking lot as well, which is a hard packed area with dirt and gravel.

All in all, should be fun!

6:30 ET I believe.  We were going to cut the meet short to give people a chance to get home for the game, but the delay of another week will be nice, as I've got some tank repairs underway that I'd like to finish up.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff.

Gives me time to fine tune my tanks.

We should have a couple loaner tanks so that everyone who comes can experience IR combat.  Should be a nice turnout.

Another successful tank meeting and RC battle day in South El Monte!  The club is really gearing up, with about 12 tankers, in attendance.  There were many tanks at the battle today.  Here's some pics of the specimens in attendance...

The day started with some "run what you brung" tank Olympics open to any tank as long as it rolled.  If you've never played before, Tank Olympics is a competition where a tank driver starts from the starting gate, and on command, must navigate the battlefield and quickly run down all objective flags, returning to the start gate.  The runs are timed, and the lowest time wins.  Competition was fierce, and there were breakdowns (tends to be really rough on your tank) and dead batteries in abundance (aka "mobility kills") and the end, it was a Heng Long that took the honors of "best time" driven by Joe Gosnell III.

After individual tank Olympics we moved on to team Olympics with the best time drivers being teamed with the worst time drivers.  Times were a bit slower, but everyone seemed to have a lot of fun.

After the Olympics, it was lunch time, and a food run was organized.  During lunch time, everyone charged batteries, repaired tanks, or talked shop.

After lunch, the battles were on for four non-stop hours with no holds barred IR battling at its finest.  There were simply too many battles to count, with about 8 tanks going at it.  There was no dominant team, with each tank and nationality winning and losing.  At the end, it was the cool weather that stopped the competition, and not lack of tanks or enthusiasm.

And of course, there was the occasional MIA tanker who had quietly slipped out of the battle day to tour the museum grounds and get an eyeful of real tanks.  There's just nothing to compare with this venue. A great place and a great time.

Yes, that's a Jagdpanther...in a cat carrier.  One of the more inventive ways to carry a tank to a battle on a motor bike.

Next battle will be on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 10:30 am.  We're moving into the museum grounds (yep, battling right next to parked tanks...) proper, so bring a foldable table(to put your tanks on), a lawn chair, and some portable shade to fully enjoy the day.

We hope to see any interested tanker there, so plan to stay all day and run those tanks.
