I have a few old transmitters that were made with aluminum cases. The cases were anodized and than silk screen printing on top of that. A couple are in really nice shape but both have the stains/crud that is left by leaving tape on them. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use to clean then up with? I have been afraid to try anything so far for fear of damaging silk screening. Any help will be appreciated.

Status: offline 		Ronsonal lighter fluid is an excellent solvent for this purpose. It also works well on most plastics to remove gunk without harm.

Lighter fluid will be a solvent, and may take off more than you want to. I would try alcohol FIRST.

Status: online 		Any idea what kind of paint they used back in the 60's to do these silk screens cases? I've got a few systems that I picked up over the years that had been "cleaned" by a seller and removed some of the markings. For instance, I made a template of markings for an F&M Digital 5 transmitter after a few hours of experimenting with fonts and size settings plus I used a paint program to fill in pixals on logos. Making a silk screen should not be too hard, but knowing what kind of paint would be helpful.

Status: offline 		Try goo gone. It will remove all adhesives, without harming any paint. Used on alot of surfaces never had a problem yet.

Status: offline 		Best thing I have found to clean tape residue from non-porous surface is WD-40. Then that can be cleaned with alcohol. Works great on monokote if you remove stickers from an arf.
