Status: offline 		Just finished an engine upgrade to Saito GG-36 gassers from the Fugi 32's I had in it.These engines have more power and have the 4 stroke sound which sounds way more realistic.I have about an hour of breakin time on these engines turning 18x10 2 blade props and I think we may have a winner here with this setup .Test flights are coming soon this month.Stay tuned..

Thanks SteveD-RCU you have provided an excellent path to help me with this build .
BTW , Steve did you sell yours ? if not how did the test flights go ?

Status: offline 		Lookin good CK1,I still have my DC-3 alright.To date I've only got the 3 flights on her.I'm testing these Saito 36cc gassers to see if they are suitable .I think they will be and will let you know how that goes.Right now I have one of the engines in a 4 star 120 but the weathers been too cold up here to get much flying in.We've also had some field issues,its in a rough condition right now because were moving to a new field and the old field isn't being maintained like it should be.

Status: offline 		Nice. I bought the wreckage of a Z DC-3 two years ago and I'm almost done rebuilding her. I hope to fly her this season. I'm using 2 G-38s with 16x8 3 blades. What is the finished weight of yours? I know mine will be a little heavey - majorly repaired planes usually are. A friend of mine preaches that a re-build is always faster than a build-build, no matter how bad it looks.

I had seen the video of your crash before. Heart-breaker! Looks to me like it got off and tried to climb too soon, although I can't speak to CG and wing incidence just by watching the video.

I have to share a little responsibilty for that one because I actually held the plane while he checked control surfaces pre-flight, but I didn't force him to let me hold the transmitter and check them myself. I think his finished weight was 47 #. He had G-38's and it seemed like plenty of power.

Nick Ziroli told my friend that correct washout and root incidence is very important on this model. Too much washout is better than not enough, but "just right" is best!

Status: offline 		Ouch on that one too. Is a rebuild in the offing? We know ours wasn't a CG problem. But definately the take-off was too early. I was standing next to the pilot and I know he was surprized when it lifted off. Probably should have just dropped it back down. After handling the first stall condition, he noticed the trees in front and again, probably should have cut the engines and put it down in the long grass. But he pulled up into the fatal stall.

The pilot is an experienced giant multi-enging pilot so I know he was really upset with this. I hope my repair flys. It looks like my model will weigh in at 48 -49 #. What props were on yours?

We had another pilot in our club put in a beautifully detailed scale giant Steerman because of reversed ailerons. Easily done.

No rebuild I know of.

He may have burned it (now that's upset!)

I think he had exactly the same props as yours: 16 X 8 three-blade Graupners.

They seemed to be a good match for the G-38's

Status: offline 		Well, it's coming along. The fuse id almost finished. My thoughts now turn to finishing the cockpit. I don't want to put too much time into it, but I do want to cut out the windows so I'll need at least two pilot looking figures. If there's anyone out there with some advice, I'm all ears.

Status: offline 		Ziroli makes some really nice pre-painted 1/8 scale pilots either in a bust or full body.You can also get a really nice 1/8th scale full cockpit thru www.scalercmodels.com/cockpit. I was about 75% done with my Ziroli C-47 when I was made an offer I could not refuse from a WWII collector in San Diego for a static display, May 1st I will have to let it go. I will build again either a Ziroli or a American Eagle.Anybody have any input on the American eagle kits?

Status: offline 		jperkinstrades,I had ordered a DC3 from American Eagle a year ago but never was able to get it from them .In the mist of it supposedly being shipped to me they temporarily stopped producing kits . I see they now have on their website they are taking limited orders . I have since started on my Ziroli after patiently waiting for many months for the American Eagle to show up. I quit waiting .... My advice is to procede with patience if persuing the American Eagle Kit . After researching it I still feel the American Eagle DC3 would be an excellent second choice to the Ziroli.

Status: offline 		Thanks. I am using the Ziroli Glass cockpit/nose section. I'm planning on Glueing it to the fuse for a permanent fixture. But that would preclude to going back in to add detail to the cockpit. I'm not happy about having screws visible. Are there any other ways to attach the front en d that you know of?

Status: offline 		crtmmac , I also have been thinking about the nose section and I haven't decided how I am going to make it removeable, but I do think it should be made removeable for access to the cockpit . I know something will come loose in there at some point .
