Hi guys,

Ive been battling with my Tamiya Jagdpanther with the local club for a few years now, I was wondering of opening up a whole new experience of battling with a turreted tank without a heavy $ investment. And was pondering if the HL Panther upper hull can be modified relatively easily to fit a Tam panther/ jagpanther lower hull,

any guys here with a similar experience?

thanks in advance!

Yes it fits very good

I had similair  problem  - an old HL Panther and Tamiya Jagdpanther lower hull
I added metal road wheels from rctank.de (for Tamiya Panther), metal tracks from Matorro, ball bearing axle support, stronger  black M02 long cans  motors to Tamiya gearboxes , Tamiya recoil,  Elmod ECO and Benedini TBS Mini sound . The upper hull and rear side  was taken from Heng Long Panther  The tank is not finished yet.

As I mentioned in another thread I used  Tamiya Panther/Jagdpanther  metal sprockets with Matorro metal tracks without any modifications

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11345122/anchors_11353740/mpage_2/key_/anchor/tm.htm#11353740

I've bought those  metal tracks from another tank modeler - I asked him were he had bought them -  but he didnt answer.  He said only that there are Matorro tracks.

In rctank.de Ive bought earlier Taigen metal tracks for Panther  but they didnt fit my Tamiya Panther sprockets and Ive send them back .

I supoose that it should be  this  Mattoro tracks

Hi Piotr,

What bearing assembly did you use on your gearbox drive shaft to give it support on the outside of your lower hull see your photo?
I would like to do the same for my Tamiya Panther G lower hull.

Thanks,

Rudy

Sollie http://www.ebay.de/itm/PANTHER-METALLKETTEN-SET-KETTEN-LEIT-TREIBRADER-/260287770577?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item3c9a5c2fd1 these tracks mentioned are for the heng long Pantiger, not sure if they will fit the tamiya sprocket, they do not fit the heng long panther sprocket. the teeth are spaced at a greater distance apart <> if you have a tiger you will see the difference in the space across from the inner sprocket to the outer one.

Hey maus. I did like this on my JP build.

wsn123: thanks for the info. I read(and commented) in the other tread, I thought maybe you had heard back fro mthe seller, but it seems that the tracks from Domeniq is a 'no go' then.

CHIEFSONN : thanks for the heads up. Now I'm confused on what to get. Seems like the only safe way is impackt tracks , if not wsn123 can confirm that the tracks that works are the same as the ones in the ebay link :-)

Hi Sollie,

I have that same transmission cover, I think? Is the HL metal cover from Asiatam? If so what size bearing did you use?

Thanks,

Rudy

WSN123,

may I ask how did you secure or screw down the HL panther hull onto the Tamiya hull? I dont see any posts or screw holes ?

thanks!

As an open question to all, has anyone with experience on how to wire the HL recoil to be compatible with the Tamiua MFU DMD units? or did you guys have to swap to the tamiya recoil too?

Thanks Sollie, I am going to use your method for the bearings. Did you epoxy the transmission housing to the side of the hull as well? I know that it is held in place partially by the small return/backlash roller on the transmission housing. Just looks like it would need some extra support/epoxy or screws to take the stress of the drive axle.

Well that pic is just a dry test. I did grind of those small standoffs and are using the roller wheel screw to hold it in place, and will glue it down with 2 part . I only do backyard driving, and no hardcore battle so it should hold up with just the screw + glue.

the bearing is also glued in place, taking care not to spill any one the inner part of the bearing :-)

How do you connect the top to the bottom hull?  The rear is from Heng Long?  Does that mean that you cut the back of the lower hull off the HL tank?  Why not use the rear of the Tamiya?

Looks like a good project...do you have a detailed build thread somewhere?

Yes the rear is from Heng Long Panther -  cutting back of the lower hull wasn't needed, in HL Panther the whole rear is mounted using two screws only. I  bought  "second hand" Tamiya Panther lower hull only  without any  rear , so I used this part   from my Heng Long Panther.

The front plate of HL upper hull slips  into two front sides  of Tamiya lower hull perfecly -   in  the similair way  as in Tamiya King Tiger .
The end of HL upper hull  is lying freeely on the rear side taken from HL too -  I plan to use additional screw or magnet to attached them stronger.

You lucky devil getting your hands on a Tamiya panther lower hull! It's great that the HL hill with clocked springs is so good, but some times I wish it was slightly flawed so some one would release a reasonable metal lower with torsion bars.

Cool...nice way to take advantage of a deal and an opportunity.  Any pictures of how the two hulls fit together?

On the subject of tracks I'd have to avoid the asiatam ones, the only sprockets they fit ate the HL metal ones ad plastic ones. Tamiya don't work and neither do asiatam!
