Status: offline 		That is my fear. The servo is probably 12 years old and has had the gears replaced twice. I forgot about the second one after an inverted approach and landing in an extra.

Since I have to get nearly everything else new, might as well splurge for some new servos.

Also I wish my Ultimate was the 40ci model and not the .40ci model it is.

Status: offline 		Amazing what a decimal point will do. LOL I also would like to get a 50cc bipe. I actually have one that's not put together yet. A GP Giant Aeromaster. I just can't figure out how to get it to the field. All I have for transport is a Pontiac Vibe. The youngest girl blew up the van by not keeping oil in it.

Status: offline 		lol I have a Vibe also. I use to fit my 78" Yak in my Nissan Sentra and Dodge Stratus. Wasn't a comfortable ride to the field with the stab smacking me in the eye every time I looked right!

So I was looking at weights of engines and such. Looks like the Saito FG 14 is 6.8 oz heavier than the Saito .72/.82. It is 5.9oz heavier than the OS .72, 4.9 heavier than the OS .82, and the OS .55 AX weighs in about the same as the OS 72. (These are MFG supplied all up weights.)

Then I thought, well I only need 1/2 the sized tank, and since gas weighs less than nitro (after quick and probably flawed calculations) I would still be about the same all up weight.

Crap I have to add an extra/larger battery....
Crap my prop will be bigger and heavier....
Crap I think I need a kill switch....
Crap I think I just caused a multineuron pile up on the 502 neural pathway

Status: offline 		Several things have happened.
1) I'm realizing how poor I still am at final filling and sanding. I can't get things smooth and flat to save my life.....

2) I've decided, since I am just getting back into the hobby and have loads of equipment and the little nickle and dime you to death things are eating up my budget, that a 2 stroke engine will be used. I kind of feel this is almost as bad as putting a Harley sticker on a Hyundai, but I can always change it out down the road.

3) I found my old box of covering remains. Not a wide choice in colors and I'm not a fan of all of them (anylonger?). It should be enough to cover the plane, shaving a bit more off the budget. I think I should still end up with a decent looking plane.

4) I've never used a heat gun for covering. My first attempt and as I worked the last bit of wrinkles out of the covering, I blasted a hole. SON OF A!!!!!!!!!

5) I still get ahead of myself and do stupid things. As I finished up the second attempt at covering the top wing, I noticed I covered the top of the top wing. I've always liked to cover the bottom, then wrap then wrap it around to the LE/sheeting joint on the bottom. Hides the seam and keeps the airflow from working under any seam and blowing it up. Oh and just for a good kick in the pants, I didn't cover the wingtip first either. Little things you forget until after the fact.....

All in all I'm still having fun, and even if it looks like a big-pile-oh-crap, it should still be a lot of fun to fly.

Status: offline 		A quote from my Father-in-Law, "Don't sweat the small stuff." It wasn't until much later I finally realised almost everything in life is small stuff. It'll be fine with a two stroke. It'll be fine with whatever covering in what ever order you put it on.

If you are really worried about the covering lifting go over the seams with a very small micro tip and use medium CA. If you are using monkote use trim solvent very sparinly on a Q tip. Either way, if done while the covering is still new nothing will lift at the seams.

Status: offline 		Thanks John. I'm not really sweating it. Fact is along time ago my Dad gave me the same advise your Father-in-Law gave you. Only thing I sweat about now if my 15 year old getting her driving temps and her boyfriend!

These are just some of the llittle ends and outs 10 year lay-offs will get you. I guess I better get the slow stick finished up and get back some of that muscle memory before i try to fly this one

Status: offline 		I think your doing a great job. Even the nod timer that can build these things in their sleep still cover a wing top first. He'll, I just did it last week on my cub. Oh we'll. I'm sure I'm the only one that will ever notice it. We are our own worst critics. Covering a plane perfectly isn't easy. I'm still real crappy at it, but they still fly just as good. Any way, as long as you enjoy yourself then I think your ahead. Have fun.

Status: offline 		I managed to strip the top wing of that ghastly weave.
I decided to keep it simple. Black and white.
Then I decided on graphics.
Then more graphics.
Still more graphics.
Then less graphics
Then different graphics.
Finally I came up with what you see.

I'm trying to decide what to do with the top wing tips. I skimped on the white covering so now I have to add some color to the tips to fill it in.

I'm pretty pleased so far. Still have some touch ups to do for that "POW" in the graphics.

Status: offline 		I'm still waiting on all the guts, but I've moved closer to finishing the shell. I need to add some stripes or something to the fuse side to break up all the white. Maybe add similar stripes to the top of the bottom wing. Not sure, but I know that is a lot of white. I've never been a white plane kind of guy. To hard for me to keep oriented.

Status: offline 		Thanks John. To examine my covering jobs up close is to see I am an amateur. Seams are uneven and jagged. My stripes are uneven, gaps are uneven. My graphics have ragged corners and sharp cuts where it should be smooth curves.

I do tend to edge towards unique, hand cut graphics, because then people over look the fact the rest is not perfect.

This was my SIG SE, the last kit I built 10 years ago. Again in an almost finished stage......

I know what you mean about more graphics, still more graphics, then less graphics, change graphics. I went throught that putting flames on my CG Ultimate, still think I have to many flames on it. That Sig SE looks nice. I don't think your a rookie when it comes to covering. What kind of covering are you using, mono, ultra.....?

Status: offline 		The SE was both Mono and Ultra. If I remember I couldn't get the right greens in just one or the other. The Ultimate has just Monokote on it.

Status: offline 		FINALLY put the last of the goodies I need on order.
Radio is installed and throws are set.
Motor is installed and plumbed to the tank.
Incidences are all 0 degrees.

Waiting on the muffler and LiFe battery and charger.

I will need to finish cutting and baffling the cowl for the motor. Then paint the cowl and pants. Install the finishing touches and balance, then wait for a decent day to come along to test it all out!
