AMD Phenom II X6 2.80 GHZ
3 Seagate drives (2 are baracudas forgot the other ones 2TB)
2 WesternDigital Caviar Drives
total space about 4.2 TB's
Monitor Medion 19in HD LCD screen beats the hell outta me what model bought from Aldi for like $100 or so a few years back
NEC DVD-RW bought ages ago and forgot I had as I never use it anymore.
Case some generic case from the late 90's that has been modified so many times its not funny.
Video card is a
1GB Radeon HD 6800
Ram 8 gigs of corsair ram (forgot the model but it was pretty expensive)
Fans uhhh I got like 6-7 case fans all various brands
Forgot the power supply its 750 watts its a name brand forgot which though as its been well over a year since I looked

Wanting to add another 2tb drive as I'm running low on space, but kinda blew my cash on a samsung tab2 7in, SCT tires for a RC, and a xbox 360 controller to use on my PC.

Won't post no pics cause the PC looks like a piece of crap.
Reasons I keep the old beat up tower:
1 I'm cheap and can spend money on better things as it still functions for its purpose
2 Its got a large number of drive bays
3 a new tower would get bear up anyways from being hit where I keep it (under my desk)
4 the processor is located perfectly for where I got the hole cut in the side of my desk that I mounted a fan on that is an air intake, and I also have a exhaust fan over my vid card cut in the side of the desk

Wow! Those PCs are awesome! Especially yours, Dark.  And i thought my pc build was powerful..... of course the total price of my build was 120 dollars. Not bad. I agree on the case thing Syco. The case i have is white and looks like its from a 90s Packard Bell PC. But, I got it on sale for... Ready.... 10 dollars! Not bad, eh?

well all that work I did on mine (mother board, processor, ram, 2tb HD, and vid card I think I paid like $300 for total like a year or 2 ago god I love sales
From what I can remember my vid card blew, and I couldn't find a replacement as the board I think supported AGP 4X only (it had onboard gfx, and is still in use, but games ran like crap on it)

I'll post a pic later...

CPU: i7 2600K@5Ghz (Winter clock, 4-4.5Ghz in summer due to 100* ambient) on hybrid water (Corsair H80)
MB: Gigabyte Z68 UD4
Case: Thermaltake HAF 612 fully loaded.
PSU: Corsair Pro Series 850.
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Primary drives: a pair of SSD OCZ Agility 120GB SSD in RAID 10 for double capacity and double speed.
Storage drive: 1TB storage drive.
Graphics: MSI Lightning Nvidia GeForce 680GTX with a 30% overclock on it. (Components approved by Nasa for space program usage, no kidding).
Monitor: Simple 22" LG, but 120hz for Nvidia 3D Vision which I also use.

Words cannot describe the power of this machine^.

Let me go through a few of its highlights for you...

The CPU is a beast for Overclocking, like all the K series. The Corsair H80 is an awesome hybrid water/radiator cooling system, it's closed circuit, no maintenance, very nice.
The motherboard is a typical Ultra Durable 4 with thick copper and military grade components, again an overclockers dream.
The case is the most mediocre part of all, I'm on the lookout for something better, but it does its job ok.
Power supply is just a power supply, pretty unit though. Keeping it in the Corsair family.
RAM is your regular DDR3 1600mhz, nbothing special.
The primary drives are the 'piece de resistance', 2 SSD OCZ Agility in Raid 10, it reads a Gig a second, it's crazy. Not so expensive for regular people to do anymore, and turns any machine into something silly fast.
Graphics card was a recent acquisition, and is the fastest single GPU card on the market bar none. Space shuttle grade components, properly insane overclocking potential. Thing is BEAST!
Monitor is what it is, I use it with 3D, but I'm looking for a replacement soon.

My laptop isn't bad either... Core i7 2360M at 3Ghz? (that's a guess, I can't remember exactly what it is lol)
12GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M.

Pic added And before anyone says anything, the cabling is as tidy as it needs to be lol. Doesn't look like much, but there it is.

That cable management is better than mine! I plan to unlock the third core on my Athlon with ASrock's software and possibly oc it to 3 ghz when i get a better fan. Right now, I have a stock AMD fan and heat sink. My budget for a new AM2 fan is 30 dollars. Any fans out there that could do that? Here is a pic;

This can be had for $35 I think, good cooler.

http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1151&ID=1987

Not sure if it will fit in your case though. In general, overclocking to any decent degree will be difficult in such a constricted case.

Its a lot smaller in the pictures than real life. The temperatures reach about 86 degrees Fahrenheit and I could tidy it up a little better. That cooler looks good. I'll look into that. Thanks!

Usually PC temps are measured in Celsius. Get the CM Hyper 212 heatsink.

There's a conversion for that.

Never mind about the overclocking idea... My friend wants to do a trade for his AMD Phenom X4. The Athlon 64, cooling fan, my old IDE hard drive, and 15 dollars for a trade... A good deal, no?

No reason not to do that deal, why does he want to do it? Is he building a legacy machine for some reason?

Are you sure that's fahrenheit? Not that it matters now, but that is ridiculously low if it IS fahrenheit, and very high if celsius. 90C is your limit before things will start failing.

You'd be amazed how many pieces of software aren't written with future-proofing in mind.

Example, the weather balloons that the British are still using over the North Sea require a specific model of a 4GB Quantum Fireball. I know this because I made a fair amount of money for a company I was working for long ago, sourcing the drives from people who thought they were worthless and selling them to the Met Office for 10 times the price of a modern drive. The software won't work without that exact disk. Just one example.

Strange that the software is drive specific!!

It's because the bios on the motherboard isn't rewritable, so the hard drive parameters which had to be provided back then, are hard coded. Therefore only a drive built the exact same way (Cylinders, heads, etc) will work with the hardware. So you could say it was as much a hardware limitation as software. I have no idea if that's the case here of course, jus sayin'

No, he just is a good friend. And, belive it or not, yes that is in fahrenheight. This is at idle for 20 minutes. It does a good job of keeping cool. Suprised I have not gotten this error;

Do people actually build ''legacy'' PC??

NASA They are usually 6+ years in the past for PC's as they put parts under such long stress tests it ain't funny, and they like reliable hardware.
And seeing they are running custom software the processor doesn't need to be as fast as say ours running windows. I remember seeing an article saying they moved to 486's when P3's were all the rage.

As foxy said a lot of software isn't future proofed
Hell I play one MMO that was designed for a P4, and old as vid cards. It runs kind of crappy at times on my 6 core as the company never made it to use more than 1 core, and the 6 core I have(2.8ghz) each core is slower than a P4 would have been(3.4ghz).

Just for giggles. These are my temps during normal use. Gotta love the GPU temperature next to it as well, now that's cold.
