AMB -> PAW 06 fuel draw question (1/20/2013 9:08 PM)

OK group Have started the Polk tiger moth with the PAW 06, really cannot pressurize the tank with a fitting on the muffler such as other engines
Do you think the PAW will have a problem if fuel pickup in tank 3/4" below carb center
If has to go up will require quite a bit of work to modify fus. to do this, to get tank higher if we do we do but would like to avoid martin

I may just put the engine back on the bench lower the tank 3/4" and see what happens just thought of this martin

It should be fine, low end might get a little lean at the end of a run but diesels don't stop as easily as glow engines do.

Mr Cox THX to get the tank higher would have to do a total rebuild front of the plane cut off the whole top forward of the windscreen to firewall and its glued over a piece of curved foam

A 2oz tank for an 06 is big, would most likely fly off only about 1/2 before landing and refueling

What about an external FF style tank.

from the PAW web site-
"Fuel level in tank during starting procedure MUST NOT BE HIGHER than in the same horizontal plane as jet. A little lower (up to 1cm) is alright. "

As to pressuring the fuel tank have you looked at crankcase pressure? Perhaps the back plate is thick enough to accept a pressure nipple.

P.S. just looking at your other post on this it would seem that you have quite a bit of tank space behind the engine on the radial mount .

Greg pulled backplate very thin a no go on that one, one other thought smaller tank, whats the approx run time on the PAW 06 on one oz fuel martin

guess at least 10 minutes at around 10K

guess I could go to the source and call PAW

OK Hayes does make a 1 oz round tank #s 077 ok fro diesel of course as is martin

whoops header tank will it work on its own??

it should orient so tubes are vertical bottom plugged anyhow , center draw on clunk line upper vent just lead higher than tank (vent ine)

Fiery cheap too only $4 the E bay one twice the price THX for the search and check

For what it's worth, I had one in a little CL stunter. It would still draw quite ok with the nose pointed straight up, and the pickup a good 2 1/2 or 3 inches below the level of the spraybar.

I really did not want to do a hack thing on the moth plenty of room for the 2 ouncer just need a little opening up on the bulkhead wit dremel and drum sander on it

         what was the inverted stunt run like with the spray bar now 2 1/2 inches below the fuel feed pipe?

Sorry Chris, I think you've misunderstood me. I was referring to when the nose was pointing straight up. Inverted, the pickup is naturally level with the spraybar again.
