Hi Guys
I have just brought an unused Tamjet bifurcated pipe but there's a problem with it. It got slightly damaged in transit and the thin brown sealant , which I am assuming is original, has separated from the pipe and needs replacing. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is and where I can get some in the UK?

I have two of Tams bifurcated pipes and I don't see any brown sealant. Can you tell us where the sealant is?

Pictures One shows where the bifurcation has come slightly undone- possibly a broken spot weld. You can just see where the sealant has gone under the metal. The second one is from outside with the outer pipe removed. As I said I dont know whether the sealant was original. If not then I can take the pipe top a local specialist welder and get the broken weld repaired

Are you sure that's a Tam pipe?

It looks like someone tried to repair that pipe. The "sealant" is not original! Do you have a shot of the pipe show both inner & outer walls?

more pictures NB I have now scraped off all the sealant. I am not certain its a Tamjet pipe. I brought it second-hand and it was advertised as a Tamjet one. A couple of the inner spot weld have given way hence someone tried to seal it. I have a specalist welder lined up to weld it.

If that's a Tam, it must be a VERY VERY early one, because none of his "newer" pipes look like that.

I would be weary to use it!

Thanks for replying. I was told by the seller that the pipe was a Tamjet one but when it arrived I wasn't happy with its condition. Sadly it will be difficult to return it to the sender as I have played with it to check for damage. I appreciate that people will make copies of your pipe and it looks like I got caught this time.
Cheers
Ian

I brought it in the UK and the I am sure the seller was genuine in believing it to be a "Tamjets" pipe. Its sometimes difficult to determine the origin of parts when they have been passed around a few times. If you buy second-hand sometimes you get caught. If it had been new then my attitude would be different.

Thanks for Tam and Vega for showing us what the pipe should look like. Its clear that Tam's pipes deserve their quality reputation. Its a good job I discovered that my pipe ius a copy. Just imagine the scene were the cheap pipe fails in flight and caused the plane to go in. Its just a shame I needed to buy the pipe but hey I have learnt a very valuable lesson here and in the scheme of things the loss of a hundred quid (160$) for the pipe is worth it for the knowledge I have gained and the fact that model and turbine weren't at risk. Can I say big thank you to all who have chipped in here there have been some very valuable bits of information contributed.

Cheers Guys
