I have always liked models with skirts on. I'm talkin' TANK models with skirts here ...... for dirt, water, dust, mud, enemy firepower protection, or whatever could be a problem. The T-14 had armored skirts that caused more problems than they prevented. Accessibility for maintenance of the track, road wheels and suspension was a bugger, so this arrangement didn't work out. But I liked the look of it , so I did it.

As usual, there were more tiny detail parts to build than I realized at first, but I always discover that fact halfway thru the build, and past the point of no return.

The r/c tranny is an old Tamiya gear train from when they had the clutch trannies and the step switch speed set up. I can modify it to work with a DMD controller.

Great job., as usual Rex. Not as imposing as the T-1 but an awesome tank. Those skirts must used up a couple coffee breaks and tracks a little more work. Assume the German tow cable is field booty?

The tracks are from this outfit. Same ones that I used on my T1E2. The real tanks both used the same design of track pattern.. I just painted them with a rust colored Krylon primer and lightly rubbed the edges that hit the road with silver paint.

That was one of the websites I found when I was Googling for reference material . I liked the paint jobs they showed on the "images" site.

The tracks were easy.... straight out of the box except for paint. The skirts weren't as much trouble as I thought they would be ..... after I decided they would be non fundtional ...... I gave up building functioning plates that worked in a heck of a hurry. The turret took the most time, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. The tow cable is a length of thick string with shink tubing on the end loops and stained with Kiwi black liquid shoe polish. I tried to reshape some HL German cable but I destroyed one trying to heat it up with a heat gun so that I could reshape it.

There is something about the looks of that tank that I just couldn't resist. I did the texture finish on the turret using that Rustoleum textured finish spray can stuff. I like the way that came out. The road wheels were sprayed using an automotive undercoat rattle can that dries to give a thin black rubber finish. I think it will wear a lot better than any kind of paint. Once it dries for a couple of days it takes some hard rubbing to get it to peel off.

The Maus is just too darn big!!!! That thing would need a garage, not a shelf to sit on. I want to do two or three pre-WWII French tanks, and just about everything the British made that fought in WWII up to and including a Centurion. But I think I'm gonna take a break from tanks and do a couple of armored cars next.
