Latley i have been watching on fleabay trying to score a Pica Waco. And I happend to see today a Top Flite Giant Corsair kit selling with a top bid of 350.00!

Nothing extra was including it was just the kit. Am i missing something here? This kit IS still available to purchase from retailers, and its only 299.00

Perhaps anyone knows something that I dont.?? Why would anybody just throw money away especially if you can buy it brand new cheaper...Im confused

It's called stupidity, seen stuff on there go for twice what a person could buy it for new,but have seen the opposite also.

I beleve it's like anything you buy. If you know your prices you can spot a deal and a rip off. If you don't know prices then you can over pay for an item. You can see the same item on EBAY being sold for several different prices, some may seem cheap but the shipping is marked up. For current manufactured items you can easily get a base price from one of the online companies like Tower Hobbies. Some items (servos) purchased from China may look like a brand name, may say they are a brand name, these are knock offs and who knows what you really are getting. Look before you leap! If it sounds to good to be true it usually is.

Hard to tell these days if ridiculous bids are stupidity or Shill bidding. ebay has really ruined the "auction" experience for me.

Since ebay changed the fee structure and it no longer cost to list anything, only when your item sells, there is no disincentive for the unethical to run out and create a new acct. to shill bid their items up. If the shill bid wins, retract it at the last minute or relist the item.

Also, I liked the idea of protecting the bidders identity, by scrambling the user name, but now you can't even see anything about who is bidding.

I just don't trust the site any longer, I pretty much only use Buy it Now if anything,, I'm not going to bid against the unknown

What someone list something for and what it sells for are usually different, people can ask anything they want - and buyers can chose to buy it or not. You can see the same thing on RCU and RCG, people selling for too much or too little. I sold over 1000 RC items on ebay last year (mainly engines) under ronwc1, and some people over bid, some got stuff cheap. Scammers on both buying and selling sides don't last long.

Either shill or stupid but most any builder knows what kits are still being cut and sold. I would guess shill bidding to sucker people in this case. I used to buy kits at club auctions and always got good deals. When I worked the Ducks Unlimited banquets I discovered shill bidding. Did my hart good to see the shill win then try to sell his items after the auction and get stuck with his over priced items. DU is known for shilling by there committee organizers and can ruin a good auction. I no longer even bother joining or going to there banquets. Shilling and fixed raffles ticked me off.

One kit I was looking at had a shipping fee of $125! So the kit would cost LESS than the shipping price!

I'll suggest one more explanation, because I recently became aware of the term 'ARF Kit.' I first noticed in a post on the kit building forum, and the person who wrote the post was quite earnest that the term was self-explanatory. A few weeks later, I noticed that Nitroplanes is selling RTF (ready to fly planes) and "ARF Kits" (apparently, RTF with all the radio and power parts, but not assembled.)

Applied to your question, here's my proposed explanation: The bidder thought he was getting an "ARF Kit", a giant scale Corsair with all the goodies. And I can only imagine the purchaser's face upon opening the box.

Of course, I could be wrong.

I suppose that is possible Scar, If the buyer was confused on the terms of " KIT "
The seller specifically stated that it was for kit only. He even had good pictures of the internals of the box..

In reference to the auctions being fixed. It is BS but what can you do. I know they protect the identity of the bidders, but are the ratings of the bidders correct?
Because I constantly see " 0 " rated bidders jumping on these auctions. I normally wont bid on those items.

I try not to ever use Ebay but im in the market atm for a discontinued Pica kit. Not many floating around anywhere else.

Possible, but IMO not probable,, it would take two people bidding to drive the price up that high,, and on the item the OP was talking about which I saw too, it was pretty obvious it was a builder's kit.

The same seller had two kits listed

kit one for $350
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NIB-TOP-FLITE-F4U-CORSAIR-Giant-Scale-Balsa-Kit-R-C-Airplane-Unassembled-Kit-2-/170975835881?pt=US_Character_Radio_Control_Toys&hash=item27cef436e9

kit two $266
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NIB-TOP-FLITE-F4U-CORSAIR-Giant-Scale-Balsa-Kit-R-C-Airplane-Unassembled-Kit-2-/170975835881?pt=US_Character_Radio_Control_Toys&hash=item27cef436e9

Now take a look at the bidders on both kits,, Gee there are a brand new account with 0 feedback that drove up the price. coincedence?? I don't think so, Sure looks like shill bidding to me.

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=170975835881&aid=o***d&eu=NqpeSpTa9rlqxFg0fYrTjlFGLTVP1xja&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink

Why I don't bid on eBay any longer, I've seen this over and over, Buy it Now or nothing

All,

what do you think a good price would be for my kit in the pictures? All parts are in the kit and the plans are in great shape. I really like the kit and I bought it to build myself. I dont buy kits to sell to make money on them.
