I just learned that my friend and rc mentor died of a heart attack. This man taught me to fly, how to build kits and ways always there when I needed help. It's like I lost my father all over again. I knew this day would come but I never wanted to think about it.

I hate to hear that buddy. It's not easy but focus on the great times with him.

+1 you've got my condolences.... I've lost both my Brothers recently (AVID RCer's... one was VERY active on this forum) I won't even try to minimize the loss you likely feel.
I can tell you from experience that it does get better and not long from now when you think of him you'll remember him and smile.
it's never ever easy.
Shutting up now, but I do feel for you!

It's not just the friendship I lost but all the building skills he took with him. No one in our club can't build planes the way this man did. He used only Koverall and dope to cover his planes and the finish was incredible. I think some part of me continued to build kits to please him and get his approval. But as they say, life goes on.

Jim,
You know that I was hit just as hard by this one as you were. Still hurts a year later

RC-Sport,
You have my condolenses. My mentor is getting up there in years and I don't like thinking about when he passes on. But I know how you feel and what you have lost. All I can say is that your mentor has moved on to a place where the flying field is always open, and the wind never gets above 5 mph!!!

Ken

I sure do, Ken! (and yes, it still does)
I hear fuel there is free, Lipos are ALWAYS fully charged and never ever catch fire... and the ground is nothin' but foam rubber 4 feet thick.

This is where rc-sport's mentor is flying right now.

Heartfelt condolences from here. I am 48 and three of my best friends are all in their 70's. There is no preparing for the inevitable.

One year ago, almost to the day, I lost my best RCing buddy - suddenly.
We renamed our field after him.

My condolences,

We have pictures up in the building of some of the members that were fixtures of the club.. and that have passed away. I still look over and think of all the stories and adventures we shared at the field, and in the shop...

Yesterday was my friends funeral and I as I sat stairing at his Oak casket I couldn't help thinking "he would have liked it better if it was made from balsa and covered with Sig Kover-all and dope"
