I have a 33 cc Mitsubishi Converted Engine.

Since I put a bigger carb and free flow muffler this engine really came alive and is lighter as well as the muffler was really heavy.......Im having a lot of fun with it mounted on a scratch built Ugly stik type plane.

These engine is turning a 18x6 wood prop at 7,800 RPM´s , anyhow given the freeflow muffler its very loud.

To comply with my club regulations I need to bring noise down but I would like to find a way to do it without sacrificing power or having to use a very heavy pipe or muffler....in order to maintain a good performance of my plane.

I was thinking on puting a aluminum cone after the free flow header ......would this work???

Another Option is to mount a tuned pipe to the engine.....would it really increase the power of the engine to be worth the extra weight of the pipe and header???

Any advise will be appreciated.

Status: offline 		I've thought about one possible cheap and light muffler, if you go to an electrical parts store and look for an aluminum "project box", they come in many different sizes for surprisingly cheap. My idea was to mount the big side to the engine , with a couple aluminum tubes (tap the body, thread the tubes, drill a couple holes in the tubes for safety wire between them and JB weld them in place or something to seal them up) that go well into the box so that they can be made into appropriate baffles.

Status: offline 		Build yourself a tuned pipe. It almost certainly will make your engine perform (if you get the formula right)

Here is how to build it yourself, and will most likely make it quieter it as well.

Status: offline 		What do you think about an aluminum beer can attached to 1/2 inch tube with a header (No tube inside the can)

It will quiet it down without restricting the exhaust for not loosing power.....

I Know it wouldnt work as a cannister but it wouldnt restrict it and would be very light.

Status: offline 		The aluminum beer bottle method works quite well. Quite a few fellows have done it already. Using a canister muffler is also the best way to do it.
But as to noise output, it depends on how you do the tubing in and out of the beer bottle.

Status: offline 		Copper work hardens after a few heat/cool cycles and will crack and break off especially with vibration.
