Status: offline 		I've got an old bvm aggressor that needs a new vertical fin- it was pulverized in shipping
It was balsa sheet sides with cf strips and a coupled of ribs in it
Looking for ideas on making a new one
Either built up- I have no plans,or carved from solid balsa, foam core sheeted?
Final looks/finish aren't important - just need to have a functional vert fin

Anybody want to suggest ideas or have an old fin that would work?
Viper, Agg ,1,2,3,even a Maverick fin may work

I can get root length/width dimensions to try and match up an old fin

Status: offline 		Don't know if you tried but call Patty at the factory and see if they have one in the bone yard that maybe can be used, or at least get specs on making a new one. Just an idea.

Do you know which version of the BVM Aggressor that you need a new fin for? 
The very early ones, based upon the Sport Shark, utilized a Magnabuilt construction process where multiple spars replaced conventional ribs.  These were sheeted over with balsa that had CF strips applied to the inside surface.  Also, this Aggressor version had a 1-piece wing.  I know because I had one.  The fin structure on the later versions (Aggressor II, etc) were more conventional with ribs, leading and trailing edges which were sheeted with balsa.  The later wings were two-piece that were retained by CF blade spars. 
I do have a set of full size blueprint plans for the later Aggressor and can copy the fin section for you. I don't believe there is much difference in the sizes.  I also have the original instructions for the early Aggressor.   Please send me a PM with your best mailing address.

Yes, first thing I did was try BVM - way out of production
Even Hoping somebody has an old fin I can use

Status: offline 		I plan to send Turbine Guy a drawing of the Aggressor fin along with the instruction manual.  I've searched for the Aggressor II blueprints in my shop but have not yet located them.  The drawing will be created off an old Aggressor I hulk which I have found.  We've determined that it an Aggressor I from the description he provided via PM.   Thanks all for the assistance in this.

I have an original BVM Sport Shark with the F-20 fin still in the box.

Vertical fin for the Sport Shark (F-20 variant),Agg 1, and Agg 2 was the same mangalite construction method and part. Only difference between these were the magnalite built wings and stabs on the Agg 1 and the foam wings and stabs on the Agg 2. Slight variances on the fuse and wing from teh Sport Shark to the Agg's

Wing retention system was the same from the original sportshark thru the Agg 2 and Viper. One piece wing with blade saprs.

I can take meassurements of my fin as well as copy the root and tip rib for you.

Status: offline 		original viper vertical fin was foam sheeted and the rudder itself was solid balsa that you had to carve to shape. For mounting, a couple of embedded balsa hard points to take the vertical fin former mounts. Not hard to make.

Status: online 		You are right. The more I think back the Agg 2 vertical was foam as well.

BV left the Magnalite structures behind in the Viper and Agg2 series.

If you would trace the outline of your NIB Sport Shark fin and send it to Jake it would be most appreciated. 
I've searched my shop, top-to-bottom, right-to-left but could not find the Aggressor II blueprints.  It really frustrates me, as I did locate the mailing tube and packing list that Patty sent to me a while ago.  I've copied the Sport Shark instruction manual at Staples and will send this to Jake later this week. 
I'll also recreate a fin using a building technique and send Jake the directions.  The method employs a thin (1/16th) balsa sheet core with balsa leading and trailing edges attached.  Balsa strips are geodetically glued to the core and edges.  These strips are now sanded/shaped to an airfoil shape and the entire surface sheeted with 3/32nd balsa.  .  I've tried this on a Mirage fin and it is amazing strong and light. 
My only concern is the structural airworthiness of this older Aggressor airframe.  I had a single bouncy landing on mine and the wing literally exploded on the very next flight, even after inspecting it for apparent damage.

Funny , I just came across an old pic of your scooby doo Bobcat that directly hit the powerlines at Woodland pulling a Hi-G turn!
I remember the purple jetcat cover had a perfect indentation from the cable!
Ahh, Magnalite, that was before my time!
My 1st BVM build was the agg 3 ( plug in wings, sheeted foam surfaces)
So it's balsa skins with CF strips laminated inside?

Yes, if you could email me dimensions and maybe pics of the plan or manual ( just for vert fin)
That would help me build one.

Status: offline 		Jake I would think this should be a simple sheeted foam affair very similar to how the agg III vertical was built and glued on. You just needed to cut a new foam core then copy the agg III plans. I had flyingfoam cut some stuff for me it was awesome work.

Just for grins I fabricated an Aggressor I fin using my sheet balsa core and leading/trailing edges connected by geodetic balsa strips shaped to the root and tip ribs.  The all-up weight of the fin, sheeted/sanded/ready for glassing was 36 grams.  The solid balsa rudder was 12 grams, which totals for 48 grams (less than 2 oz) for the entire vertical surface without glassing.  I doubt a solid surface could be built any lighter and, maybe, perhaps a sheeted foam core structure. My fin is amazingly strong and only took a partial evenings work with scrap balsa.  Kindly let me know how you build your vertical fin and a weight of the surface before glassing. I'll glass mine as soon as the shop warms above 65F.
