+ 1 also. Don't be tempted to charge with a wall wart. It will do it but will take a lot of life and cycles out of your pack.

Exactly right about wall wart...they don't like to stay on trickle.

I use a thunderpower 610 set to .2a with 3mv/c. I have it set on auto voltage on nimh mode with the 610 but any good programmable charger will let you set 8cell nimh mode and adjust the peak mv. 200-300mah charge is max. If your pack false peaks, turn the mv up to 5 and try again. I have about 50-60 cycles on my pack and it still gets full capacity. Best upgrade I have ever done for that radio. The charger that came with the 12x cooked my stock battery from the beginning. It never recovered.

I charge mine at 500ma with a PowerLab 8 on NiMh setting, I think I read that you can charge them at up to 1C, which would be 2amps. I'm not sure if the JR battery board that connects to the pack can take that much though, you might end up frying the little diode on it.

Mike,
Go to www.electrodynam.com  for instructions on charging Eneloops.  Andy also has some chargers  that will do the trick. He provides info on the delta-V numbers to detect the peak for these cells.  I've converted all my tranny batteries to Eneloops with success and also trying them for low drain airborne applications-not jets.

I've always used the wall charger from my JR radio with out any issues. It just takes a little longer.

Send your old 12X battery to Chad at Sin City Jets. He will remove the old batteries and install the Eneloop batteries and send it back ready to go !!! $ 49.99.. Can't beat a deal and service like that.. It's the way to do it.

As Vincent said, the Sirius Smart Charge "peak predict" chargers work really well with Eneloops. But mine is the old 500 mA.

If your transmitter is under warranty you will void it by using a nicad pack not honored by the manufacture.

Ok.... The 12x was almost unusable with the stock nimh pack. I had to charge mine while I was out at the field to have a full day of flying. Also, eneloop packs are nimh not nicad. Same as stock. I would much rather have a radio that works without a warranty, even though i see no reason that replacing old batteries with newer technology of the same chemistry would void the warranty, than having a paperweight that I cannot use because of the 2 hour battery life.

Call Horizon and see what they have to say. Most if not all r/c modelers never fly for two hours of flight time and that makes you an exception to the rule.

If it voids the warranty it does. I like the eneloops. I really like my lipos in my 3 DX18s but that really is not an option

Thanks everybody for the info.
Two things. Chad does not have the batteries. He is out of stock.
Like Cyphur says " If it voids the warranty it does.
The radio is unusable with the stock set up. Thanks, Mike
