Status: online 		Ground speed is irrelevant, airspeed is everything. Lots of fixed wing aircraft have gotten airborne with zero ground speed, usually with disastrous results!

Status: offline 		I was instructing years ago here in Michigan when a particularly nasty line of thunderstorms moved in. Just as they got to the airport, a Mooney landed and taxied in to our ramp, the closest to the runway.  The wind and rain began to really howl, and he turned into the wind and wisely kept the engine running. We watched as strong, driving gusts assaulted the plane.  More than once, we heard the engine rev and saw daylight under the tires.   The front passed quickly, and we parked him and secured the plane for the night.

My first time in a light aircraft was a demo lesson in a Grumman TR-2 out of Houghton County in the Yoop. Instructor checked the weather and said something about a cold front. As soon as we got up to pattern altitude we could see the roller clouds coming off Lake Superior. It was a short flight and I remember the airplane being buffeted as we taxied back in. We were pretty lucky on that ten minute flight.
