OK club 40 junkies, Georgetown TX is hosting its first race of 2013 season, on March 16, 2013. See the attached flyer and pay particular attention that we will not have the A, B etc. Mains. The new NMPRA matrix program we are using does not lend itself easily to do this. Therefore, however and instead of, we will be flying 5 or 6 rounds of racing, depending on how much time we have, and all rounds will count toward the final score. That way we do not have to change wing tags between the final heats of the day. also this allows everyone to have a full day of racing.

Skully, that depends on what the majority of the pilots want. I intended to have this discussion at our last race in November, but forgot. As you know, it is the current RCORO rule, but as we have seen each region has modify the rules to suit their needs. So if the majority of Texas Club 40 pilots wish to leave the rule as it was last year, that is what we will do, if not, we will enforce the 2013 RCPRO rule. Since the Dallas area has schedules some Club 40 races I would include them in the mix of pilots making the decision. This goes for the Houston area pilots as well.
FYI, I have used the bubble less tank in the past and found no speed advantage, and a lot of extra work, which is just my opinion. I use the stock tank and fill it full for practice and use only 4.5 oz. for a race.
The 30 second idle rule will be checked on all planes during the first round of heats. Any backup plane will be checked in the first heat it is used.

Thanks Bob, my vote is to let us use them this year, and then weed them out in the future. I just bought two last year and would hate to think I wasted the $$$. Good job on making the engines idle too, mine always have.

I like the idle rule being enforced at the start of the first heat! And I also would like to keep this Club 40 class stock box! With agreeing with Skully I think the bubbles tanks should be weeded out after this year! I like Bob do not think they are a speed advantage but they are an added expense we don’t need in the Club 40 class. I had talked about another point standing for the Texas Club 40 area in the thread (Club 40 Schedule for central TEXAS 2013 - 1/23/2013 7:57 AM) and didn’t get any replies on it so I’m not going to worry about the extra work involved in it...

Gary, I personally think that we should do it for the 3 central texas clubs. It might lend itself to everyone wanting to make every race. And people will know how they are ranking against other racers. I believe that the lack of response could be because people are not looking at RC Universe as much as they will when we get closer to the races. If you want, put your question out on the email list and see if there's a response. Just my 2 cents. Charles

We thought about an idle rule but could not agree on the rpm. With some guys running a 9 inch prop and others with a 10 inch you can expect different idle speeds due to the larger prop having a better flywheel effect. Have you given this any thought?

I suggest you take rpm readings of about ten engines and see what you can reliably get.

Correct me if I'm wrong; the Idle rule is in place to verify that an Engine can sit there and Idle for at least 30 Seconds, to eliminate those engines that run Wide Open Throttle much like some of those race Engines that are not allowed, or that the Mixture Screws been modified/removed; I don't believe the idle rule has a specific RPM, again, I could be wrong, but that's the way I understood the rule; Bob will clarify this for sure.

Doug you are correct! The idle rule is just for that verification of a possible modification on the carburetor! I have tested my share of props of all sizes and my plane will set and idle with any prop I put on the Thunder Tiger.

Charles, that was my thought in last year’s point standing, is to try and keep the pilots coming to the races and I’m not sure it worked! We still had the same guys going to the races from before and the other pilots just picking and choosing the race they want! Not everyone is dye hard racers like some of us....[>:]

If I remember, wasn't it also required that the plane sit idling for those 30 seconds by itself? i.e., no one holding on to it?

Chuck is correct, back when the Club 40 event started one the main ideas was to make the takeoff more like a typical day at the flying field, rather than a racing event with engines running at WOT while your buddy is holding the plane. That’s when everyone started their engines at the starting line and then walked back to the flight line while their engine sat idling at the starting line. AH! Those were the days—
However because of many mid-ground crashes during takeoff it was decided to have the engine running at WOT with a buddy holding the plane until the flag dropped. This reduced the number of mid-ground crashes. Now the idle rule helps ensure that the engine is a stock sport engine rather that a purpose built racing engine or a modified sport engine..

FYI for all club 40 pylon racers, the grass at the Georgetown field has been cut and the Pylons are up. The field is in excellent shape and will be open all week for practice.
