What do you guys reckon to this? I have to admit I don't like the look of any of the latest radios based purely on aesthetics but then I suppose you don't look at it that much anyway.

Alex

Its basically an XG-8 case with DSX-12 stick units (finest sticks over IMO) The idea is price, its going to be very good. There is also a European tray version. These will help bring DMSS to more modellers needing more than the 11 channel XG-11.

Alex, fine unless you have a rake of DSM2 & DSMX receivers!

following on from the 11x it will be brilliant with possibly a good price tag too ,

JR is a fab system and you certainly get to FEEL the difference,

I would have one ordered tomorrow but...... am not going down the route,

changing loads of receivers again after the 35mhz changeover,

its a pity JR couldnt still leave us the option of using spektrum

hope my 12x  lasts as long as my 10x did !!

Forgetting the looks for one moment - which funnily enough I find quite nice - but I have been accused of liking ugly things in the past ...

Reading through the feature list and programming capabilities of the XG14 compared to other radios in this class it looks to me like it has more advanced functionality and with the quality of hardware we are used to from JR I think this will be a winner.

No prices have been set yet but early indications are that it is going to be superb value for money. We will start to get a better idea on prices after the Nuremberg Toy Fair where it is currently being shown, but what I have heard so far has given me the confidence to place a healthy order for the first batch.

regards

Colin

I think you will find JR's hand was forced to go away from DSM-2...
The sixty plus DSX-12's we sold in this country are expected to go on for years, like all JR gear. I won't be changing existing models from a system that has been faultless for me, but new models will go DMSS, as that is the way JR are going and I'm a JR man.

We had our first confirmed order for this radio half an hour ago...

Would not have guessed if you had not mentioned it!

I will definitely be having one of these! The G has said i am not allowed to buy anymore models . . . . he said nothing about radio!

I am intrigued by the new X-bus feature, would like to know more about that. No doubt a JR derivative of Futaba'a S-bus, Will this mean X-bus servos etc?

Dave, I loved my faultless DSX9 but have so many JR and Spektrum rx's it made more sense to me to go with the DX18.

Just before the 18 was announced I bought a 11 channel JR robot and very nearly came a cropper, it switched itself off luckily whilst preparing for it's test flight in a prop.

Turned out even the Japanese can cock up, the Tx battery was assembled trapping the wires which resulted in one of them breaking contact so even JR can get things wrong occasionally!

Gary.

I like JR.... but I absolutely HATE the look of the new box. Why can't they build it on a X9503, or 12x box ?????

Second... I know they are braking away from Spektrum... but since all my models have DSM type Rx's in them... I'm going to have to say "By-By" to JR, since they are making their own signal now. (I'm not going to go out, and buy new Rx's again)

I really think JR is heading the wrong direction, and they will loose customers because of it.

Just my 2 cents... take it for what it's worth.

I have to agree with the last post. I have been JR since my original Wee macgregor blue set. I too, have to many planes to convert over(17) which would cost a fortune. Also the bind and fly is ace. I also have a DSX12 and it's so good to hold and hope it lasts a long time, I hate all these plastic TX's now.
Happy Days
Richard.

I agree, the box looks like kaka !!! Go back to the 12X box.. I will invest in DMSS for my jets but keep the DSM2/bind and fly on my 12X.. I think the DMSS protocol is superior to DSMX. I think and always thought Futaba modulation system was far superior to Spektrum/JR DSM2, but I can't bring myself to buy Futaba. Now with JR with DMSS it levels the playing field with Futaba in true frequency hopping. The DSMX " Frequency Agile " is close, but does not compare to DMSS... In my opinion of course.

Lose and gain, I have new to JR guys because of DMSS. I think DSM-2 with remote Rx's is great, but before long the choice will be Spektrum branded Rx's only and I'm not comfortable on the high end stuff...just don't see the quality control. We have sold a lot ( a lot! ) of JR Rx's... not so many Spektrum and I have had lots more Spektrum Rx's back than JR.

DMSS is here and staying, so I'm running both side by side. Lots of my buddies the same

Anyone seen the JR PROPO USA Facebook page? Is this tied to Horizon? Is this a begining to the JR-HH divorce?

Any facts to support this opinion? I see nothing that indicates DMSS or FASSTest is superior to DSM-X.

Totally agree Tony,

I think JR is going to fade away...at least in the North American market. Too many changes in 2.4 protocol causing people to sell their DSM-2 equipment for DSM-x and now asking them to sell again for DMSS. Ugly transformer looking transmitters. Late into the market with a new competitive transmitter. A change in HH focus from JR to Spek. It all adds up to a JR demise in N.A.

I've been a JR die-hard since '96, still using 12X but, made a change to Weatronic when the DSM-2/DSM-X thing happened and now with the DMSS change, I'm glad I did. I'll be buying the Wea transmitter when it's out and won't look back.

Mike

Dave,
If JR think that by ending production/support of JR DSM2 receivers that they will encourage the customer to start again and switch to their DMSS system, they must be living on a different planet!
Why would I possibly invest inanother product line from that company?

If I'm having to abandon DSM2 I would make a calculated objective choice as to whether Futaba, spectrum or jr DMSS was the best option, and damn any learning curve associated with changing type.

Is this transmitter backwards compatible with the earlier JR/Spektrum 2.4 systems?

My 9X2 can transmit on 3 variations of the 36mhz band so I can use all of my existing
recievers & it's all set up in the model memories so you don't even have to think about it.

If not JR users face the fork in the road & not all roads lead to JR.

I was (still am on 36 mhz) a happy JR user for 20 years but after watching all the different
versions, modifications & add ons as JR faffed about with their 2.4 systems I'm glad I went
for something else. No, it doesn't have the 'JR feel' .

The main reason? A friend turned up with a 12X on DSM-J ( a frequency hopping system
not widely publicised) a few years ago before I went 2.4. It was obvious they were not finished
faffing about & something else was, yet again, coming.

It will be interesting to see what the spin will be to convince us that frequency hopping is the
future (JR's future, everyone else is there already) after years of trying to convince us it wasn't.

- John.

I've been flying them since JR was sold in a little hobby shop at a casino in Vegas named circus circus! I guess the blue box is older than that because I was flying the a Tower/Sanwa and Tower/Kraft before that. We had three JR 12X's as our last radios, but have made the switch. Have to QQ's and one normal 18. Hope we're not burned by these. Haven't been yet and they're flawless. Not perfect, but no problems so far
