Same problem exists with this as the Hetzer (Jagdpanzer 38t)... no viable tracks or hull to RC.

But hey, maybe next will be a Marder of some sort?!!!

I think that the hull could certainly be reinforced, and depending on the quality of the plastic, some lights mods could get a reasonable suspension happening.

But this is one that is screaming out for aftermarket tracks and sprockets. I'm getting as soon as I can!

Actually, a close look at the built-up model appears to have black plastic pin-linked tracks a la Heng Long... If they've done that then they'll sell a boatload... Can't imagine that they'd offer this with one piece rubber or sectional tracks.

If you look at the exploded view, the tracks are indies with two pins. Depending on material: ABS vs styrene, it might be possible to drill out for full length metal pins.

The hard thing will be getting the sprockets driving, there's little room under that tranny cover roof. Perhaps a 1/35 TU could be installed or an external final drive like with Xion's Kettenkrad.

I put a feeler out to a friend in the business for more info if possible.

Very cool indeed.

When I hear folks speak of these smaller models being weak or flimsy.... well isn't that sort of in keeping with the type?

Some re-enforcing where prudent yes but I believe that scale operation within the limits of the design are called for.

I'll stay off my scale operation soap box but just this: stray off pavement and manicured dirt and pay the piper...

I'm one to talk as I took my Wusan T-34 to pieces and made a steel hull ( unfinished ) for it... cause it was too flimsy for a T-34

Panda make good second tier kits with a surge into top teat lately. Their plastic is soft and fit has been a bear in the past but I have noticed a steady improvement since their 1/32 Huey kits.

One of the reason I couldn't get  a Hetzer project off the ground was internal clearances for electronics, battery and TU's.

quote:

was well liked by it’s German adopters because of it’s manoeuvrability and reliability

quote:

They were even favoured above the German Panzer I & II by their crews.

I think it was more down to the fact it actually had an anti-tank gun and the Panzer I and II didn't and the the Panzer III and IV were only just being churned out. They were famous for anti-crew construction.

Looks a nice kit so far though.

They also make 1/16 German nuts and bolts: http://shermantracks.com/catalog/german_nuts_bolts.html

If the tracks turn out to be usable, a merger of this kit with the Blue Star Hetzer is in order!

Wow, an SU-100 and a Hetzer. Things are looking up.

Wonder if they ripped off the Juckenburg kit?

The Panda is injection molded styrene, Juckenberg is resin.

I'm not familiar Panda's models but if they did they one-upped Juckenburg since Juckenburg's is
a resin kit and Panda is injection molded right? If I'm wrong about Panda I retract the statement.

I've worked enough with resin models over the years to know they don't interest me no matter how
unusual the subject. Juckenburg has some very interesting products but resin.

try the "Clark" electronics including the tamiya compatible battle unit. Another option is the Tamiaa 1:35 electronics. Does anyone know if the TBU's fro Tam's 1:35 are compatible with the 1:16th TBU? There are lots of gear-head motors and miter gear availability for building gear boxes. the old Mauri, VS tank, Academy 1:25th and Tamiya 1:25th size gear boxes available. (Toys East, Tamiya, etc.) Panther/Jagpanther tracks and drive sprockets (with mods) can be used. reinforcement for the hull could be a few layers of fiberglass with metal bits in key places or a simple brake formed sheet metal hull similar to what Panzerpaul had used in his Hetzer. Lots of opportunities. Hell plastic card stock can be used to replace the hull and be as strong as the previously mentioned 1:25th scale stuff. As a small lightweight tank operated judiciously, as Tanque mentioned, it should work well. Not real easy but not real hard for most folks. Some enterprising soul will come up with an aftermarket kit to help. Embrace the fact that detail parts are available now.

Need to get the measurements from the 1/24th RC gearbox as they are sealed (and affordable too) and look like they were meant for this tank.

Can't be that hard to get someone to CAD some metal drive parts and CNC/Caste them.

Would open up a bunch of possibilities.
