Welcome, welcome.

RJ, nice that you got the engine working, sounds like you are getting closer to the re-maiden.

I may have the opportunity to re-maiden mine with the 91 Surpass in it by tomorrow, I think my friend may be available to film this time.

Bill

For a 30cc I would go with this one, here is a video too, I got the info from RJ. The 60/90 size Chippys are a one piece wing, the length of the wings is short enough to be carried in one piece.

CARS II, I was referring to the discontinued Giant Chipmunk from Great Planes when asking about the two piece wing.

http://www.greatplanes.com/discontinued/gpma1303.html

Nice price though on that Aztec model!

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. It was mentioned in an earlier post.

Twin Flyer,
I'm the one with the discontinued GP Chipmunk and to answer your question ....Yes, the wings are built up with plywood and balsa and are detachable.  The fuselage and cowl are fiberglass.  The wooden spar is attached to a fiberglass center section and the wings slide onto it.  They are easy to install and remove and make it much easier to transport.  However, I have a smoke tank installed in the fiberglass center section and must either remove the tank to reach the plastic bolts that hold the wings or just leave everything attached.  I'm lazy so, I'll probably leave them as one piece.

Here's a link to a review I found on the web.  It may help explain better than I can.

Have had one of these with the retracts powered with an OS 61FX for about 6 years. The wire in the landing gear is not strong enough and will bend on landing. With a 12x7 APC it goes as fast as I want it to. Haven't flown it for quite a while but reading these posts is getting me thinking that I should. Will do it this spring.

Went to the field today to fly my chippy with the OS Surpass 91, again all I can say !AWESOME! combo. the 4 strokes engine sounds much nicer than the 2 strokes and the 14/8 Master airscrew prop pulls it just fine, I got video ( my friend filmed it this time ) so you can see more of the airplane than me, really do I look that bad?

Working on the video, will post it tonight.

Here a video flying the Chipmunk with an OS 91 Surpass, big difference between the 2 strokes ST 90 and the 4 strokes OS 91 surpass and the sound is way better

Carl Goldberg made an E-Chipmunk too (I think they are discontinued now though). I have one that flies great with a Norvel .074 engine in the front;

On my second flight for the afternoon the engine quited about 3 minutes into the flight, we had a wind coming right on the runway's direction and about 6 mph, gliding her was not a problem, she came all the way to the runway just fine but at the last minute I decided to add the flaps, man! she slowed down to much and wamb!! stalled about a foot over the runway, needless to say the landing gear took the heat.

This is my excuse to go in there and reinforce or re glue the landing mounting blocks, the damage is minor but I'm going in there to make sure the blocks are the way I like to have them.......glued

Good looking flight.  The 4 stroke is pulling her very well.  Looks like youi had a LOT of fun and that's what it's all about.

Mr Cox

The line of Carl Goldberg models lives on, Great Planes bought them and they are making some of the most popular models including the E-Chipmunk, take a look.

Good to know, I wonder how much they have changed on them. The specs seem very similar, but there are visible changes to wheel-pants and canopy etc.

If you put a "smoked" canopy on it, it will look just like the new ones.  I think the decals are available as a separate part if you check Tower Hobbies you may find them.

Cars II,
Do you plan on fuel-proofing the firewall and the fuel tank compartment?

Allan ( my sons name with double l ) and welcome

Mine is a World Models Chipmunk it comes with the firewall fuel-proofed, I did not checked the tank compartment but I will assume it is, in my 27 years in the hobby I had only once had a tank leak on me and that was in my rc-infancy

Wouldn't you know?  After waiting over 2 weeks to get the receiver (AR7000) for Mr. Chips the darned thing is not working right.  It took 4 tries and a different battery (both charged) to get it to finally bind but, now when I re-start the system it will not re-bind consistantly.  Additionally, the flaps won't work unless plugged into the "Gear" position and it won't pass a range test.  So, looks like it will be another week or two before I get to put him in the air.
