I picked up a second hand RC18MT that ran great. I swapped out the stock motor for an 18th Mamba 5400kv and promptly stripped the diffs; so I installed MIP ball diffs, and the overheating started! The motor gets to about 200 degrees on a 60 degree day in 5 minutes! I tried regearing it as much as I could, but that didn't help much. I loosened up the diffs as much as possible while still keeping it driveable, no luck. I thought the motor was bad, so I put the stock brushed motor back in, and still had the same temperature problems. Gearing is 9t pinion, 55t spur running a 2s lipo driving mostly on pavement. Without a motor installed the truck has very little rolling resistance, and no corner to corner binding. Anyone else have a problem like this?

have you checked your esc settings ? make certain the drag break is turned off . just to be sure . it looks like your gearing is more then conservative,so i doubt thats the problem . go over the driveline maybe one more time check wheel nuts , gear mesh and all that stuff. if nothing else maybe try dialing the esc back a ilttle to maybe 80% and see if helps the temps

I did check the ESC settings with the Castle Link Program. The drag brake is set low (15% I think), timing isn't advanced. My spur is just ever so slightly out of round, but it rolls further than many of my models, so I doubt that has much to do with it. Dialing down the percentage on the ESC is a good idea. I haven't thought of that. I've got speed to spare for sure. Thanks!

Did you use the motor/esc in another car? No binding of any sort on the car? Also check the battery for any sign of puffiness.

Before I got the RC18MT, I was running that system in my Losi mLST with no issues.
