how is everybody doing today? ok this is what i have. it seems most folks suggest using 18/54 gearing for bashing an erbe. i'm using 22/63 on 3.8 trenchers. considering the ratios are pretty similar (3:1 give or take...) what would be the pros & cons to switching to the 18/54 gearing?

    Hey there,

As you may have noticed, I moved your previous thread on this topic to the Traxxas MT forum. I see that you have not had any answers, so this time and this time only, I will let you keep both of these threads open. In future though, please try to keep things in one thread, cross posting is against the rules. Good luck finding the answers you seek.

oh ok. Yes I did notice it was moved but didn't know how or why. I assumed thats why i havent gotten any replies. Also, I was not aware of cross threading or any rules that pertains to it. I apologize.  Could you please explain to me more about cross threading &/or why it was moved to begin with so that I do not make that same mistake in the future.

No probs, basically, we say one thread one topic, period. But don't worry about it, it's not my goal to enforce the rules even when they don't benefit the members. A good moderator only takes action that benefits the community, not curtails the sharing of information, so this time, don't worry about it, not a problem, honestly. Now you've got a thread in both forums and are more likely to get the answers faster, just that we don't allow everyone to do this all the time, mainly due to the fact that it spreads out information. If we let someone post the same topic in two forums, they generally get two communities answering, this causes two negative effects on the forum, firstly, due to the fact that some classes see things differently, the member may end up with wildly differing answers to the same question, and be left confused as to who to listen to but more importantly, as mentioned, assuming that all the info in both threads was good, it's now spread out and harder to find for the next person who may need this info.

I'm sure you can appreciate the logic behind moving threads to the best forum and allowing only one thread per topic. I'm still happy that I made the right decision moving your original topic to the Traxxas MT forum, that is indeed where it belongs, however, when I saw you post the topic again, I had two choices, I can either let it go, because you didn't have any answers in the topic I moved (this is what I elected to do) and see if you get the answers you want in this topic, or I could delete your post and tell you to wait for answers in the appropriate thread, which on this occasion I don't believe serves the greater good.

Bottom line, rules are rules, but moderators enforce them based on experience and instinct, not all rules always apply and there may often be cases where it is more beneficial to the members to waive the rule. In such cases it might be counter productive to enforce a rule for the sake of it. My opinion anyway. There's some moderating insight for you.

I dare say its just reccomended gearing, if u are a little over or under it does not matter. only thing to watch is motor temps

Its all highly dependant on what battery packs you are using. Im running a Tekin RX8/T8 2250 with 23/50 gearing on 4 and 5s with no worries.

I would never reccomend using battery packs that cant supply what the ESC draws, in any setup thats asking for problems

I run 18/54 in mine, temps are great, and it has room to go but I like it right where it is. I've seen people run 22/54 in it. Just experiment and see what you like. As others mentioned just keep an eye on temps and make sure your packs can handle it.
