Status: offline 		My Andersen TA 152. I am modifying it to be the prototype V30, this aircraft had round wing tips which makes it quite unique. I have been dragging my feet a bit. I do plan on spending tonight and all day tomorrow in my shop. Work really gets in the way of things! This aircraft has been a lot of work. Mostly just figuring stuff out. Hoping the next one goes smoother.
One cool thing I plan on adding are operable cowl flaps. By that I mean thermostat controlled, so they will open and close as needed by engine temp.
Pilot is new Gunther Rall by best pilots. He fits in there like a glove! Maybe I will get some more current pics in a day or so. I am further along than this. At least I can say I am the first to post a TA 152 build!

Status: offline 		Looks great Vertical. When that next one comes in, I have the instructions manual for this bird..It may or may not help.. Did you follow the plans and make the fuse two parts or one? I look at my plans of that kit all the time. Soon..very soon

Who's rivets are you using? I used 13,000 of G Pete's (Fritz Dezings) on my P47. Yes, it does take a while but when your done and this bird is painted and flying it will be worth the time. Besides you've already started so no turning back now! Also I put about half the rivets on the wing bottom as I did on the top, since most people don't see the wing bottom. Also more around the cockpit and cowl where people look and less on the lower fuse sides and bottom. This saved a bunch of time. Great idea for a thread by the way.

Status: offline 		Whooo.. Thats a lot of rivets! I'm also using Frits Designs and I'm at about 23,000 thus far. I'll do all of them as I'm my worse critic. My holman (pictures in silver) I burned every darn rivit in it and that's why its taken years to complete, on top of other builds..

Sierra and Gene turned me down. Shindin and Century are my last hope. The gear, especially the mains, would need to be custom.

Status: offline 		Ram, are you going to the wings over the rockies model aviation expo on 2-23-2013? It is at the museum at the old Stapleton airport site. I will be there with the Love air club. If you make it, drop by and say hi.

I think this thread has some great potential to assist many on scale details and techniques specific to axis aircraft. Really looking forward to watching it evolve.

I think another rule should be added to this forum, no mention of allied aircraft! God, you do not know how sick I am now of the P47. I would almost rather see a Mustang at our field these days! Almost! It has gotten to where there are 4-6 of those things flying at once, all the time. My lone FW 190 D9 needs some support.

This is a long time build I just got back to. I've done a lot of scale parts for some talented friends like fiberglass cowls, canopies, long range tanks and such but this is my first full scale build for myself.
It's the Macchi c200 that Ed Newman reworked and he cut me a kit but work got in the way until now.
I have the Moki 150 and Sierra gear. Blah blah...but, I'm making my own wing sheeting.
So far I have the elevator halves covered with G10.
I got an unexpected effect when I used a vacuum bag system to hold the sheeting on while the Gorilla glue dried. I now have a scalloped effect. Good thing the ribs are in the right place. I was going to do the effect with primer but it saved me a bit of time I guess.

Status: offline 		I've got the cowl built. I built Ed's new Macchi cowl for his larger one because I had a lathe big enough to turn the 12" radius cowl plug. The blisters are made with polyeurethane resin. I'll end up mocking up a new cowl with all the blisters and then remold it with a 5 part mold so I won't have to add the blisters later. There was a lot of lead added to Ed's because of the radial issue but I won't have that problem.
Here's the cowl plug for the 1/5th scale that someone else made and the new plug for the 1/4 scale I made.

Status: offline 		Here's the silicone molds that were made to pour the polyeurethane in for the blisters. I was practicing on the louvers. I made an impression with the white material that is called Hydrostone. If you haven't used it you should try it. It's rock hard but sands like chalk. I bought 100 lbs for $45. Architects use it to make model buildings with, mask makers use it to make body molds and so on.

Status: offline 		Since I made so many Storch cowls and other parts I have a lot of fiberglass so instead of buying Fliteskin (ms?) I decided to make my own...nervous...Moki!!! But it should be fine.
They lay-up schedule is 3/4 - 2 - 4 - 2 oz and was vacuumed to a glass table with peel ply on the top so it is ready for gluing without any further preperation. It came out about .017" thick which is similar to FS but slightly stronger.

Status: offline 		I like the look of the radial but... I think it would look better in the front of a FW190A I can't justify buying one as 90% of the time, my planes go in nose first.

I'm working on three FW190's now, the Holman, Dave Platt and the TF FW190. I'll post my other projects when I start them. Pretty excited about the Platt being almost completed (the build at least) after three years.

I have a question, how do you go about painting the struts on the Sierra landing gear? Also, what color were they on the FW 190 series of aircraft? Is there a primer or special prep needed? The struts look so much better when painted, and I have never seen this item mentioned in any builds. I would be using my airbrush, and I am sure seversl light coats would be in order to not muck up the mechanisms.
