Just came from another look for SSW's main forum. But it's still giving a Script Error, no such page. Same almost as when the virtual domain was edited.

Kiwi, I just came from there and could access everything except the messages. Classifieds, product reviews, and jokes were all working. So, I think that they are probably working on the system to allow more time for editing or to allow members only posting.

Hope more flyers drop in here for a visit while they're in limbo at SSW.

Kiwi and Marvin. Looking forward to seeing you both at our contest in a couple of weeks.

Bill,

SSW in this instance refers to the Stuka Stunt Works CL Forums. It's where most of the "name" stunt flyers post and argue.

SSW Forums

The forum requires a user name and password to post, as does this one and, indeed, any other serious message boards. The log in process stops the strange questions that we used to get at the first generally used CL Forum operated by a graduate student in Indiana, one Iskandar Taib. When Iskandar finished his studies and returned home to Indonesia a couple of years ago and his message board was discontinued, SSW pretty much became the venue of choice. Iskandar did not require a user name and password and as a result did get some pretty strange posts, e.g., "How do I get my '88 Honda diesel to stop knocking," "Which is better paint for graffiti purposes, Krylon or Rustoleum," "Where can I get plans for submarines," etc.

The "pros" didn't like the format at Iskandar's Board and most of them used the Control Line Forum at RCOnline until that forum started making "changes" and "upgrades" ( ) on a seemingly weekly basis, causing, among other things, lost passwords and/or user names, different log in procedures, and very often, a total re-registration. Folks became impatient fairly rapidly and migrated elsewhere.

I know that the foregoing is more than you wanted to know, but I couldn't resist.

Paul

Bill and Denny,

As of now, all forums seem to be up.

The outlook is optimistic still! I have been planning to make it again, anyway!

Well, they are certainly not allowing new members... I tried and was informed that I refused to accept their fair use policy... all this with one click? Sent 'em an email

Hmmm. Hopefully it's just some sort of misunderstanding. First I've heard of someone not being able to register. You can post messages about problems with the site in the "Forum User's Support" section without being registered.

I assume that SSW is Stuka Stunt Works. I ordered a set of plans from them a few years ago and that was a great transaction. The guy that I corresponded, Leonard Neumann, with super friendly and informative.

Define "a few"! One time I came there, I had four, and managed to tear up three. My trips to OKC have seemed less afflicted with kamikazes (although the date conflict for their next one means I will be in Houston, instead).

If I bring more, will you buy a few and enter the event?

Incidentally, it's been raining so hard here the past hour, it would strangle a frog! We didn't get to go to both days of the Kingsbury contest, so I don't know if Sunday was a rain-out or if they got all the rounds in despite some rain there. I just checked the Weather Channel web site and the long range forecast for Tulsa looks good through Saturday!

I like flyin' em well enough but I never have gotten used to the idea of tearing up multiple aircraft in one day. I'll be too busy with tabulating and photography to mess with combat anyhow.

An amusing note about c/l combat, or at least I think it amusing.

At the '60 Nats, there was one table in the hangar covered with "Twister" planes, Carl Berryman's design. The next table over was not to be seen, except the legs; it was covered with Riley Wooten's planes, all the "Voodoo" design.

Berryman and Wooten swore they were not the same plane. General concensus of the contestants was that the easiest way to tell the two planes apart was to follow the control wires from the plane to the arm holding the handle, then check the attached face.

Haw.
