Engine rod could be worn out.

Are you saying when you put the igniter on the plug it doesn't glow but it's not damaged?

get a stronger glow ignitor

It runs for 1/2 a tank.  How is an ignitor related to his problem.

When the engine stops running, his glow plug won't glow anymore.  I.E. burnt out.

it runs rich for 1/2 tank, fouls the glowplug, , ignitor doesn't have enough juice to burn the contamination off the glowplug.........Put in a fresh glowplug and it lights right up..............I see this all of the time at the track, guys think they killed plug after plug only to have me show them their little handheld glow ignitor doesn't have enough juice for the job.......This is why I use a ignitor with a 12v power source...........In my day I have probably see over 100 plugs wasted because of the ignitor not having enough juice to burn the contamination off the plug.............. the plugs look perfect, except they wont light.................. most small handled ignitors barely have enough juice to light a fresh plug..let alone a contaminated plug..........this gets even worse when guys run cold plugs......

Since you did not tell us what glow plugs you are running I would suggest a cooler plug.   It could be you are frying the plug because it is not the right plug for this engine.

Personally I run a Medium Heat Glow Plug because the Filiment is a little larger then a hot plug and will last longer.   The thicker the filiment in the Glow Plug the Cooler it will run.

If you get to cold of a plug it will Flame out.

I generally suggest Medium Heat Plugs in most engines in the summer months prevent frying them and hotter plugs in the colder months to prevent flame out.

Here is a link explaining glow plugs.

I would expect to use a colder plug...what fuel are you running?
Have you removed the head....what does it look like in there (pictures)....does it have the correct shims?
Is the conrod/crankpin worn...(post no.2)?
Are both needles (HSN+LSN) set in the ballpark range of the manufacturers settings?

Also do you have any good close up pictures of the plug element (wire)?
