Hey guys, well with all the good advise I received I could hardly wait to go pick the 18 up. I had a R1221 already in the F16 I am working on so I just bound the new 18 to that receiver and worked perfectly. Then I decided to add some extra goodies to the jet such as canopy and lock, probably just because that new receiver that came with the radio and the expansion receiver that I picked up also was just setting there. So when I tried to bind the new receiver I got only a glitch of light on the receiver when I plugged the battery into it. I can not get a flashing light and I do have the bind plug in. Yet when I try the receiver I took our it binds fine. Bad receiver? I don't know. I will take it back to the hobby shop tomorrow and check it with another one just to see. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had a similar experience with my 18 turned out to be low battery voltage.

Your rx is shot, send it to Horizon and they should replace it.

I'm not sure how the 18 works (haven't played with it yet), but are you trying to bind a DSMX Rx with the Tx set to DSM2? I saw this the other day with a DX8 and it turned out the wrong "modulation" was set in the Tx and wouldn't bind with the Rx until it was changed.

Isn't the R1221 DSM2 and the Rx that comes with the 18 DSMX?

Just a thought.

Do you have all the Satellite Rx units plugged in? Some of the Rx's will run with one Sat... but I think the 12xxx needs all 4 plugged in.

Could be a bad rx but I had something similar happen with only one satellite blinking.....I moved the transmitter a little farther away and it worked fine.

Try this, Turn everything off, insert bind plug, turn rx on, turn transmitter on with bind button.

I think the manual says something about transmitter being too close may effect binding

Dustin I will do it tomorrow if we don't get it figured out. I've left my shop for the night. But I have the bind plug in the bind data port and batt in the batt port with negative facing to the outside. I've tried the battery in any open slot as the manual said but doesn't change anything.

Yeah,

I'm not sure on the 18, but I just saw the non-binding issue due to DSMX vs. DSM2 with the 8 last week; that's why I brought it up. It might be something to look into.

I have had this with a few receivers. Assuming nothing is switched on and then you plug in the receiver to a battery with the bind plug connected if it does not flash rapidly it is a bad RX. Check or try the battery the other way round first which I assume you have done as the markings on the new RX's can be confusing.

This problem has nothing to do with binding. If the RX does not flash continiously when powered up with the Bind plug in and the battery the right way round it is faulty. The TX should be off at this point

As I said earlier I'm sure your rx is shot.

It's happened to me a few times, even on an AR7000 which had hundreds of flights, when I finally went to rebind it showed no flashing lights no matter what. Don't waste your time.

Gary.

I recently received a new JR 9 channel rx that would not bind with my 9503 tx. After trying everything I could, I finally attempted the binding process with a different rx battery. I had been using a well charged 5 cell pack. When I replaced it with a 4 cell pack, it binded with no problems. I called Horizon and discussed the issue with their tech reps. They say they haven't heard of this before, but trust me, it happened. The new radio works flawlessly and on the 5 cell pack. Just won't bind....

Interesting that one as I use an old 5 cell pack (6v) to bind all my receivers

Assuming this is a power safe receiver, remove the soft switch. Install bind plug, attach batteries, that should put receiver in bind mode.

Some things to try...

1. is the Bind plug in the correct port?   I had two identical JR receivers, and one binds perfectly with bind plug in the marked bind port.. the 2nd RX did exactly what you described if I put the bind plug in the marked port.. It turned out that the actual bind port was on the oppostive end of the ports and using this position (incorrectly marked on RX) worked perfectly..

2. correct polarity of the Battery on the RX?

3. DSMX or DSM2 modulation set in your radio?  It won't actually make a difference because the RX will / should bind either way.. but select DSMX because it is a better protocol ..   ( whatever your TX is set to will not affect the RX flashing in bind mode)

HOpe that helps.. Please post if you fix the problem.. just out of curiosity..

Ok guys, embarrassing to say but the problem was I had the bind plug in the wrong port. I looked at it again and thought I would try it in another port and presto! The 9020 receiver is very unclear the way it's marked. Thanks for all the info. This is a great thread I've learned a lot more than what my original post was about.

I have to correct my post above^^^

It was NOT that the rx wouldn't bind, it was the fact that it wouldn't work the controls when set to DSMX.

I just wanted to make that clear, Sorry!

Great to hear it worked..  I guess the bind position on some JR RX is incorrectly labelled.. one of mine definately is.. .
