    I just picked mine up about 2 hours ago. I just got it home and it looks pretty nice. I have been reading this thread, and I am trying to figure out the cost value of putting $215 dollar retract in a plane that I only spent a little over $240 for. Please not trying to start a flame war, just was wondering what is the main rationale for changing out the gear for gear that costs almost as much as the plane. The retracts in the Corsair have metal instead of the plastic like the ones in the P-51. Just one RCer asking a question.

    I just bought my Corsair tonight. I hate to brag, but my LHS is selling these things for $229.99

    Darn good price for a very nice plane. They recieved 3 of them today and they have 0 left after I came home.

    Can't wait till spring.

    I posted earlier about the Sierra Precision set. The reason I will change is, I have seen these cheap retracts cause the loss of a nice plane. I will spend the 200+ and the time to install them because I know it will save the plane from a bad landing due to wheels toeing in unexpectedly, nose over's, etc. etc.
    And if it go's in for any other reason, The retracts are normally still good, and they will go into the next Corsair I buy.

    I have a H-9 P-51 and I put up with the wobbly gear for a year and just changed them out. I got a 45.00 Tru Turn Spinner thats a disgrace due to them. I also have---Had a Texan that was smoked due to cheap gear.

    Just my way on rationalizing it.

    Status: offline     		I'm with you 100%, I can't quite figure that idea out either. 240 + 215 = 455. Buys a heck of a nice plane. I looked at the ZQ Models retracts. Cheap price, and I'm sure the quality is poor compared to the CJ's, but $50? If they work for 50 flights, good enough for me.

    Status: offline     		Well, I've actually had the time to fit one CJ retract into the wing. Works great. I had to add around 5/8" of extra gear mounting blocks to the existing wing structure - no big deal. Also, a bit of routing with a Dremel was necessary to expand the width of the existing mounting blocks and related structure.

    DrDeath - the CJ retract price also includes a complete air system, nothing else to buy other than a retract servo. Why the extra cost? I would rather have the extra $250 invested in a great ARF rather than to risk it to a set of $20 retracts. I know we all land perfectly , but on the odd occasion where something goes a bit wry, I'd rather have the insurance of sturdy gear.

    Look, $250ish for this ARF is a real bargain. The Top Flite kit costs around $150 alone! There is just no WAY I'd trust crappy landing gear to an otherwise solid ARF.

    Just my opinion - I could be wrong.... (kudos to Dennis Miller)

    Status: offline     		Uh-oh, there letting Packer Backers on here now . Anyone have any good pics of this plane built yet? I don't mean the pics from Horizon Hobby, I mean good close up pics. So many ARF's can be so cheasy looking, (oops, sorry about the cheese reference), the at6 looks great, I am wondering if the Corsair looks just as good. I need a home for an O.S. 90 four stroke I have lying around, trying to decide on which plane to put it in.

    Status: offline     		Got mine today. Direct form Horizon. The plane is beautiful although I have some misgivings about the retracts, also. There is not much side to side slop in them but a lot of fore & aft. I see the set screw, but it looks like the struts would be less than 90 degrees if you tightened the screw. Potential for noseovers. Don't know this for sure but it looks that way. Any owners tried this yet?
    I also have misgivings about spending over $200 for a different set of retracts. I think I'll see how well I like flying it before I make that decision. It doesn't look like there would be any problem retro-fitting them later if I like the plane okay.

    Status: offline     		Also got mine direct from Horizon Hobby today. I had about 10 minutes to look at it over lunch. Looks exceptional. Beautiful covering and wow, that fuse is light. I'm impressed. Can't wait to dig in and start construction and get it in the air. I will install Century Jet Retracts (because I have them already) and a GMS 76 with Bisson Pitts Muffler. This one should be a winner. -Eric Cayemberg-

    I just finished glueing the wings to the center section. I will let it set overnight to get a good 24 hours worth of curing. I don't feel comfortable with the two joints. I am thinking about removing the cover over the top and bottom and glassing it. Anyone else thinking about doing this?

    Status: offline     		Well, I picked up mine today (actually the wife's, she's a Blacksheep nut). I'll build it pretty much stock. The wire for the retracts is a lot tougher then the one in the P-51's so I'm hoping it will work out ok, there didn't seem to be any slop to speak of in them. My first experience with retracts of my own but I'm not about to put a $200 + set of retracts in a $230 plane that will fly maybe one or two Sundays a month. I was more concerned about the canopy. It's painted up real nice but mine is so flimsy it cracked as I cut it out.

    I will change around the tail servo's and make 'em mount inside. The bird looks to nice to hang servo's out in the open on it. Just got to figure out the rudder. The way they designed it looks kinda cheesy, driving the rudder from a steering arm hung on the gear rod with a collar. Changing the elevator around will be a piece of cake, the rudder will be tougher because of the corsair tail fin design.

    Status: offline     		Correction, the CJ retracts are around 93°, not 95° like I said earlier. My bad. I just measured them with a protractor.

    Anyhow, to those who already tried CJ retracts for the Top Flite Corsair in this plane, do the wheels lay perfectly in the center of the wheel wells?
