This has probably been asked before, but I can't find the thread.

I have two 3S2P Kokam 1200 packs. My question, is it OK to charge the pack as it is or should I seperate the two series pack and charge them individually?.
I have a Kokam 402 charger and I set the voltage to 11.1 and the current to 1.5 ampa (max).
My reasoning is that I will put 750 ma through each pack and I find I have to charge for about 2 hours.
Will I notice any degradtion by charging them in parallel over a long period.
I have my castle creations ESC set to cut off at 9 volts (soft cutoff).
I am just worried about charging them in parallel.

Regards

Actually, this is probably the first time this question has been asked on RCU. The electric forums are still fairly new, and don't see nearly the traffic of other sites.

Anyway, the answer is, "No problem!" Yes, there is no problem charging LiPoly packs in parallel, provided you discharged them in parallel, and they're at roughly the same state of discharge. The parallel circuit will keep the packs balanced.

Hi Tom,

As long as you flew them in parallel, you should be fine charging them in parallel. I've never had a problem doing that with my packs. Once in a while, I will unplug them from my Kokam Parallel Connector Module and measure the voltage of each pack for a sanity check.

Good luck!

Thanks Guys,

I have been using them for about a week now (several flights) with no problems with the parallel charging.
Li-Polys sure do make electric flying exciting again. I have been flying twice on the one charge. and the lightness of the packs makes the models really perform.

I will probably never go back to nicads again.

Amazing!!
