Status: offline 		  I bought a used piper cub from the local hobby shop. It's a 72" wingspan, all wood construction covered in monokote. I was looking for engine recommendations: OS 46, 55 or 65 (all AX versions), and maybe prop size? . I'm not sure who made it (manufacturer?), if someone could help me with that too? 

Wingspan: 72"
Cowl to Rudder:
Firewall to Rudder: 41"
Front Wheels: 3"
Tail Wheel: 1"
Width at Firewall: 4"
Wheel-to-Wheel Width: 12 1/2" (center of wheel to center of wheel)
Fuselage Width at Gear Attachment: 4 5/8"
Width of wings: 10"
Length of aileron: 18 7/16"
Width of aileron: 2"

I've attached a picture of it without the wings attached, if that may help. Any help would be appreciated!

Status: offline 		possibly a goldberg anniversary cub, although there are a few clones out there in that size range. A 2 stroke 40 would be plenty. If you need to go faster, you got the wrong airplane...

Status: offline 		A 40LA or 46LA is all you need for a 72" Cub. A 46 AX is too much, so the 55AX and the 65AX are WAY TOO MUCH. Save your AX engines for a different application and go with the lower priced 46 LA with a 10-6 prop. Mount the engine over 90 degrees on it's side with a pitts muffler. Have fun!

Status: offline 		I agree a .40 to .46 2 cycle or .56 4 cycle should do it. A Cub should fly like it's big brother slow and leisurely.

Status: offline 		 Thank you everyone for replying! I'm certainly not looking for a fast stunt plane, I just didn't want to send it up underpowered. I have a 40LA laying around from an Avistar that I could possibly throw in it, or I'll spring for a new 46LA with a Pitts muffler.  

Is there any way to ever find out for sure who made it? Or am I worrying about something that doesn't matter?

I think the noise from 4 cycle sounds pretty good coming from a Cub! My SIG 1/5th Cub has a Saito in it as well. Way over powered though its an old blue/white box .80. It was a challange getting the engine to work with the original cowling.

Status: offline 		Any suggestions on Spinner size to not look silly?  I was going to go with a black spinner, maybe 2" ? or should I go smaller?

Status: offline 		The small diameter cone shaped aluminum "spinner nut" from Du-bro, Great Planes, etc will look about right and only cost less than $10. The similar more bullet shaped aluminum spinner nuts also look good. Same low price! Not sure if great Planes is still making them, you may have to check the swap meets or watch "fleebay" for one to come up with the correct thread.
