Any engine will run just fine with no nitro so I see no reason why this won't apply to a car engine as well. If you want to go with no nitro then I'm guessing you're doing it for fun and not after all out power anyway. The major difference you're likely to find by not using nitro is that your engines will last longer (so long as you have a decent amount of oil) and they'll run for longer on the same size tank. You'll need to use a hotter plug though. Long ago I used to run one of the early OS 21 car engines just for fun and it was run on 80/20 all castor with no idle or any other problems.

I don't think there is any real differance as long as the nitro is kept to 20% or under. Actually if the engine as a low enough compression, and you never have a lean run the high nitro engines last as long or longer. If you run the mixture rich enough it will actually run cooler and still have more power.

Forget the Penrite TS40C as it won't mix with methanol....

According to a different Tech guy who used to race nitro cars, the good oil is
Penrite's Ten Tenths Castor Race 40, a castor/synthetic blend as used in professional go-kart engines at speeds up to 18000 rpm's at 16 to 1 ratio
I tried this on the weekend in a K&B 61 and a ST75. both planes were a lot cleaner than usual and the K&B seemed to have more compression, probably not so gummed up in the ring as it was! I have 23 more litres to burn so I will get back to you then, although the less mess & easier cleanup has won me over allready.

I spoke to a guy at Penrite regarding their Castor Race 40 - he first stated categorically that it was fully synthetic. I pointed out that the PDF on their site mentioned "vegetable oil", and he said there might be a small amount of castor in it. I asked if he could give an indication of the percentage, he said he didn't know as he wasn't a scientist and couldn't find out because it was commercially sensitive information.

What a load of crap. Worse still, Penrite is an Australian company. All the major oil companies have a fuels technician who you can call and speak to, and have so far been happy to give me oil percentages.

Is the stuff particularly cheap? Unless there is some considerable saving, I'm reluctant to reward their poor attitude.
