Just visited Hitec web page and found out that 605's are discontinued. What do you recommend as their replacement?
Thanks,
John

The 605s are discontnued?

It's about time. Worst servos I ever wasted $40 on. When is Hitec going to wise up and discontinue the entire 6XX line. The 625 and the 645 are just as bad.

Rather than be completely negative; I'll give you a few suggestions on which servos to use in place of the 605BB.

These servos will all exceed the performance of the 605 and they are well worth the money IMO:

JR 8101
JR4131
JR4721
DS3421
DS8417

I just can't understand why anyone would try to save $250 on servos in a model which could cost as much as $2500.

If you spent $40 apiece on 6 of the 605s then you'd have a total cost of $240 in servos- which BTW are a terrible servo.

You could get 6 of the 4131s for $480. Or 6 of any of the above listed servos for about $500.

Your total investment in servos would be only $230-$250 more with the JRs.

How much is your model worth?
How much is your peice of mind worth?

The 525 is a good choice. They are more accurate (5 pole motor instead of 3). Not quite the torque, but very fast. I guess the 3 pole design allows more torque. If I needed high torque, speed, and accuracy, then digital would be the way to go. BTW I just replaced the servos on a 30 Raptor with 525 and a 605 for the throttle. They are working excellent. Very fast.

Good Luck

Rcpilet,

Very easy. My most expensive model is less than $500.00. I fly 40 size airplanes. Saving $250.00 on servo's is half my airplanes entire cost. One 605 is for the rudder.

All I wanted to know, without all the BS is what would be a good replacement in the same price ratio. The only reply I got that means anything to me is from k2ramair about using a 525.

John

Do you want Speed or Torque ?
Another choice would be the Hitec 545
A little less speed than the 525 but more torque. 61 oz torque

The 605's are being replaced by the new HS-635HB; it uses the new Karbonite geartrain and a new I.C. for improved centering and resolution.

Here's the info: http://www.hitecrcd.com/Servos/hs635HB.htm

BTW: The 605 servo is 8 years old and has sold over 1,000,000 units since it's introduction. It is probably one of the best selling servos of all time!

It amazing how people compare it to servos that cost twice as much as then wonder why it does not perform as well. Hitec makes servos at every level. The 605 has filled a slot in the market for an economically priced high torque servo. If you want top level performance then you have to pay for it. Our 5945MG is arguably the best servo on the market at this time and it still only costs about $85. It's always best to use the right tool for the job!

Mike.

The street price should be about $35.

That 635 Servo looks interesting. What do you mean when you say better centering? Is it comparable to a 5-pole motor servo such as the 545? Is there a digital version (5635?) coming up for even better centering?

The new I.C. allows for a tighter deadband (4us) so the centering will be much better than the older 605's and close to that of the 545BB's.

I don't have any specific info on a digital version, but I would antisipate it being available in the near future.

Hi Mike,

When can we expect the HS-635HB servos to hit the streets?
None of my usual vendors seem to be stocking these yet.
