Ok here is a question for ya. Why exactly are all the new 2.4 transmitters using such low voltage? Its common to see 4.8 volt transmitters now, is it becuase the processor parts have become more efficiant or does it have something to do with the way 2.4 transmits? Perhaps the actual transmitting part of the radio has become more efficiant with 2.4? Just curious what the real reason is.

Efficiency is the main reason. With the old 72/75/35/36/40 MHz kit you were stuck with a compromised antenna length. The RF board compensated for the reduced antenna length by a loading coil so it seemed that you had a much longer antenna. This meant that RF energy was being lost within the system and only a percentage was actually being radiated.

With 2.4 GHz antennas being much smaller, you are close to a perfect match with little losses within the system. Also modern electronics can run at lower voltages ( 3.3V typically) for the CPU & logic circuits, so we do not have to waste power by using voltage regulators to drop down from 9.6 V (or more) down to 5V.
